Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Notified today

I was notified today that I'm being laid off. I thought they were done until February, but I guess not. Merry Christmas!

I am in for life. After 10 years doing hard labor here, I am terrified to be put on parole.

agree @nzv+1pXuyvhs said.

It's hard to see if for a good thing right now. It is.

It is a low tier company to work for in many ways other than pay and benefits. I have never seen a company go out of its way to skim from their employees.

It has nothing to do with a being a large tech company. Most are pretty decent and offer market benefits and pay. These companies are bragging about new campuses, expansion, and perks.

Sorry about your layoff at this particular time. Really terrible to get let go. But here's the bright side:

Now you can fully enjoy spending time your family during the Christmas holidays without worrying about work. New Years, new chapter in your life.

Also, I am very confident that your next job will pay you almost as much as your VP. You'd be surprised how little they get paid compared to the C-Suite. My former manager told me it's only about 160 to 180k. Working for an OEM like Dell or HP severely underpays you. I've been working for a massive supplier of Dell/HP/Apple for about three years now. My salary has literally more than doubled.

A lot of people get too comfortable working for these large tech companies and they forget how little they get paid and how little the company cares about them. Not to mention, your skills devolve so quickly because these types of companies rely on third parties to do the thinking for them. If your work is too easy, that's a problem.

My advice is to look for a small to medium sized company.

Best of luck. It's about to get better, I promise.
