Q4 mysterious high volumes?

For the first time since 2020, in Q4 UP is likely to have higher volumes YoY (low single-digits) and materially better operating performance. Will this continue into 2024 with a recession year?

Black Friday generated $9.8 billion in online sales — up 7.5% from last year, while in-store sales only increased 1.1%. This is why we are getting more trains. Ups, FedEx and Amazon trains are moving the economy. Automotive sales on the other hand is a bust.

Don't believe the talk about there not being a recession in 2024 because it's an election year. 2008 was an election year, and that was the beginning of " the great recession" if I remember right. Many of the same vulnerabilities that were in place in 2008 are in place again today. A housing bubble that is beginning to deflate, rising consumer debt, government over spending, and an overvalued stock market. Warren Buffet recently said that the incredible period of the American economy is coming to an end. Anything could trigger a severe recession in the U.S. A Chinese banking collapse, more interest rate hikes, the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the middle east. Or even worse, election turmoil here in the USA if someone doesn't get elected.

There’s only one reason there won’t be a recession in 2024, did everyone forget it’s an election year? He-l if they have to they’ll hand out more make believe money to prevent it so inflation can ruin our lives some more.

What recession? The economy is booming and unemployment is still at record levels. Do some research before posting nonsense.

With most employees warning people to stay away from this company, I find it very hard to believe that even a contractor would come do work for this company.

The MOW furloughs is a curveball due to it being planned out as temporary. Even though the UP did not state a return to work date but did say it was temporary and would return to work next year. Now I highly doubt that all 1000 plus will get you the call. I think that they are testing the waters with contractors. Anyone heard anything?

If little by little then explain the MOW furloughs…1000+ employees is hardly “little by little”

They always find a way to fudge numbers. Pull the locomotive past the first OS then park it to wait on a crew or what ever. All numbers are false.

Aight now Boys, gonna be skeleton crews from 2024 on out. Shareholders smile every time a furlough happens. Signal maintainers be prepared to each have 150 mile territories and track inspectors will have 300 miles. Good luck

Who says 2024 will be a recession? You're so full of shiiiit! If you do work for the railroad you should know numbers don't matter to the average railroad workers! only to shareholder and CEO! LAYOFFS WILL CONTINUE! BUT THEY WILL DO IT AT SNEAKY INTERVALS ! LITTLE BY LITTLE
