Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Was VMware a WFH forever job?

So what was VMware’s plan for RTO had they not been purchased by Broadcom?

Were they moving toward a company-wide WFH model or were they thinking about a hybrid or full time RTO?

Up to the buyout, there was no RTO plan. VMware sells software that enables WFH. They weren’t going to do an RTO because they eat their own dogfood. That is probably a small part of the reason BC is divesting EUC.

Yes, see page 17 of VMW 10k dated Feb 2023, filed with the SEC. Section regarding human capital.

“… we continued to invest in our dynamic global workplace of the future, empowering our people to work from any location, consistent with business requirements…

“ we believe our approach to choice and flexibility has enabled the company to successfully compete to hire and retain skilled and talented team members from many new locations globally and contributes to meeting our diversity, equity and inclusion goals. As our employees demonstrated through the pandemic, work location does not dictate success.”

I worked from home for VMware full time for 16 years. If I had stayed I would now be driving to an office. Glad I left!

No way they would have mandated a 5 day RTO policy and monitored it etc. 5 day is an aberration in 2024, at least in Silicon Valley

Yes! On-going notices of COVID outbreaks in PA campus. That place apparently needs a good fumigating before anyone would step foot in the place, and then? HY come to town
Wear your N95 mask everyone!

Back in 2020 the original expectation was for 50-60% to continue working remotely over time.
