Thread regarding VMware layoffs

RTO is completely pointless

Completely and utterly pointless. I'm not sure what kind of collaboration everybody is expecting to be achieved in person, but literally, all collaboration done while I was at the office was online. There was no reason for me to be there.

RTO=MORE SELF TERMINATIONS= LESS SEVERANCE= MORE PROFITABILITY 📈

No one from my team in my office, so I drive to work to do zoom in an open space floor plan.

I went into the office, parked my car in my cube.

Watching VMware process their RTO trauma has been a trip for the rest of us.

It's a good time to live >100 miles from an office (for now, anyway).

RTO for most large/major companies is a joke. This "collaboration" benefit is 99% imagined; if you're at all senior in VMware, you work with people across the world in your day to day doings; started this AM with a call from the EU, and last call next Monday is 7PM my time because it's from CA. No surprise right, that's life in a big company; but sitting in an office to make my calls doesn't change that one bit.

I'm not one to get overly upset about "green" and "sustainability", but mass RTO for a company that's global and distributed is the moral equivalent of lighting an oil well on fire to roast marshmallows. How many 1000's of gallons of fuel were burned yesterday by people "driving to Zoom"?

it's not about working together, it's about showing who's boss. when HT tells you to jump on your right leg, then you jump on your right leg. if he says to jump on your left leg then you jump on your left leg. As long as he spreads enough RSU, he will always find enough "assets" (his words, not mime) who agree with this.

Look folks, you already know you have to be at the office regardless and there is also no career progression for most. If you sign up for the rsu carrot, you have to deal with the culture at Broadcom. Otherwise it’s best to plan an exit, knowing you will regret your decision to stay later on. Wishing you the best.

Exactly and I only managed to get in office today in a week because all my meetings are with other timezones. I went in for 3hrs, 1hr meeting 1hr chatting with people and 1hr lunch break.
