Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Broadcom RTO policy

I’ve seen many defend the RTO policy citing other examples such as Google, Apple, Meta etc. What is rarely mentioned is that these companies actually are adopting hybrid policies, mostly requiring RTO 3 days a week. That is a huge difference from 5 day mandatory RTO.

I think most would agree the a hybrid policy that are being adopted in our sector would be much more acceptable.

You work for Hock. And as much as it su-ks, this is what it'll be.

So I can make it not su-k just by not working for Hock anymore? Sounds good!

Seriously though, I don't get this attitude. Why would anyone do something that su-ks? I was in the military after high school, and a lot of it su-ked. But it was in service of something bigger than me. Broadcom is just a job.

And with all the benefits they've taken away compared to VMware, it's not even an especially good job anymore.

So why put up with the su-k? I need money too, but even in "this economy" there are plenty of jobs around, and I bet a lot of them don't su-k for no reason, like Hock does.

Unless BC shows it is capable of change, I’m out

Most would agree, but you don't work for most. You work for Hock. And as much as it su-ks, this is what it'll be. You can tire yourself out posting here but Broadcom will remain 5 days per week, and it will still retain the vast majority of its employees.

Hock lives in his own bubble and echo chamber.

Hybrid is the new model period. The world has changed because of COVID and the increase in global teams that can never collaborate in the office.

I’ll take my toys and leave. By Hock, see you in the obit pages shortly!

I’ve received a full time offer from BC and will work happily only if they grant RTO3days hybrid model. With 5days commuting 3hours a day, I’ll go along for now and find a suitable alternative in 2024 who can offer flexible/WFH.

But it is Broadcom's problem. They bought a company that is vehemently against RTO 5 days a week. All the people with marketable skills will be gone within 6 months and BC will be stuck with an acquisition they cannot turn around. I hope the acquisition sinks BC; F them and their business model.

Again.

Broadcom NEVER told people they could work from home forever after the pandemic was over.

Just because VMware’s mushy management agreed to continue letting everybody wfh after the pandemic ended isn’t Broadcom’s problem.

You people are ridiculous and if Broadcom was smart they’d accelerate and increase the layoff list and keep only those mature enough to put on pants and leave the house for work like many struggling people do every day for minimum wage to make ends meet.

The rule has always been - after the pandemic is over everybody must resume normal office duty.

That has never been a rule, an agreement, or even a good idea.

All of those other companies that have had to compromise and negotiate with their employees on a hybrid office schedule has proven that it was NEVER a good idea to promise permanent wfh to their employees.

Broadcom was smart not to make those sweeping promises.

The rule has always been - after the pandemic is over everybody must resume normal office duty.
