Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

Why did the Gopher team leave?

It started with their manager, a long-time SAS exec with excellent technical skills, who retired suddenly. Why? Was he at odds with the Big German's successor BH? Did the rest of the team's exodus stem from the same reason, or because he left, or because they were drawn to greener pastures / wanted off the sinking ship? I've always been curious.

Most of the Gopher team left because they had developed highly sought after technical skills that were relatively easy to market at growing tech companies—companies that pay better than SAS, offer equity and are almost exclusively staffed by highly competent, world-class engineers

Gopher stayed on The Love Boat until the show was cancelled. Last I heard, he was a talk radio host in the DC area.
