I worked as an account manager mid market, prior to that role staples.com acct manager, tenure of 18 years total, I was a top performer, and like most top performers was struggling to achieve impossible key performance levels to keep my job since 2021 when many other top performers were either fired, had quit, or were on performance management due to not reaching KPI's, which, laughingly, those who were , that being applauded and used to show that they were achievable, were actually cheating the entire time, and yes, their managers knew but did not complain because it made them look good. We were regularly threatened
if we did not "sell our way out of the mess" that inflated goals, disengaged customers, closed businees' and lack of product/inventory created. Meetings and trainings that took us off the phone,managers listening live to your calls and ripping you a new hole if you did not use Miller Heimann openings, a weekly beat down with a bully manager, 30 minutes lunchbreaks that were often impossible to take as slt loved to book meetings around that time. Then after all the beatings, a 5 minute teams meeting where our cameras and mics were disabled so we could not speak, respond, or even look SLT in the eye. Staples is a toxic workplace, the managers from team managers up the line, they are there for the $$$$$$$, the sales team are the whipping boys, working your a-s off for a $1000 commission pre tax, If you enjoy being gas lit, berated,lied to, this is the place for you. If you value your mental health get out now.

All this is true. I worked for the company since 2007 to 2023. KPI's got harder to reach and yes cheater get a pat on the back or if you kiss up the the manager (some) they will overlook things. I was left go for performance issues because I could not meet the KPI"s would not cheat. The manager being new to me would not let me close out any opportunities ($$) I found but let others do it. Dial. Dial, Dial.. don't help the customers you claim to give the best experience to. They take away categories the customers are buying in that you built and then you fall on your face because you no longer have that money coming in... now you are left with customers that have been with Staples for years and do not have any other needs to build $$. You go from top seven in the Acct. Mgs to demoted in two month of a new year. No one cares but acts like they are doing you a favor by giving you to the devil and he send you to he-l and out the door. Even tries to say you are fraudulent. Sad. People ask me how I made it as far as I did. Most of the time I paid for it...let me tell you.

I’m not an employee but you can tell Staples that consumers will boycott them based on needless layoffs and unfair treatment of their employees. Stop screwing with American jobs. It’s bud light time for staples.
