Thread regarding VMware layoffs

How are laid off people doing so far?

Since this Layoff form, I just want to reach out to fellow laid off CMW employees and check how they are doing? What’s the plan now? How’s job hunting going? Taking a break?

Just looking for feedback and advice since it’s my time ever getting laid off. I just did nothing this week. Literally nothing.

Im doing more than great! Enjoy watching this latest chapter, with focus on RTO, and the ensuing bi--h session. Fu--ing thrilled I stepped off this bus, and with full severance soon. This was an absolute gift, for which I'm thankful

I quit before the original close date. Best decision I've taken. Good or bad, the broadcom model wasn't for me, I'm not coin operated and like enjoying my work and work environment. I'll keep some BC shares and will see if HT's gamble to sacrifice the soul of a unique company really pays off.

I was sad for two days as I felt my work was my identity but I get to do things now I just pushed away before. I also started to sleep better, the pain on my right side has started to subside so stress is slowly peeling away.

Doing quite well! Glad to be out of VMware and BC. Sleeping better too. Sending laptop in today and happy to put this all in the rear view. VMW we knew and loved is gone forever.

Relieved and sleeping better. Much happier to have received severance.

Yes, disappointed initially but I had planned for it and more importantly wasn't planning to be a BC employee.

On one hand, it was disappointing to receive an offer while others did as it makes you wonder if you were just an okay employee. It’s like what else could one have done to receive an offer?

On the other hand, I have worked at a company that’s like BC so I’m very familiar with sh---y sweatshop culture. And when I read about 5 day RTO? I wasn’t particularly surprised as the company I was previously at was against WFH even during height of the pandemic. Like I’m sure it’s nice to have a job but I can imagine some folks will eventually come to despise BC culture

Yes !! Started getting stuff done in the house today that had been pushed for long time. Sleeping better. I had started my job search a few months back so I already have a resume in good shape. Wasted some money on resume writers from LinkedIn. Don’t use them. Google provided access to a talent advisory firm called LHH. They did a great job on my friends resume and LinkedIn profile. Plan to use $1000 outplacement service payment to sign up with them and get some help. Training on new stuff. Reaching out to people that I haven’t connected with in a while. For 20 yrs I have not had a break where job was not at the back of my mind. All this will be great for little while I suppose. If there is no offer in 3-4 months then I guess worry will creep in. It a new experience so banking on the saying whatever happens, happens for good.

I'm going to chill until the holidays are over.. Make dental and medical appointments I've been avoiding and clean up my resume and LinkedIn profile. Not rushing to find a job. They're out there. I can understand my younger colleagues who accepted their offers out of anxiety, but I can guarantee they'll be bailing after finding out what kind of sweatshop acquired them. Anyone who bought into the line that it would be "business as usual" and that the VMware culture would somehow survive are in for a rude awakening. When you see the BC employees here mocking VMware's "woke" culture and making LGBTQ jokes it makes you wonder if those are exceptions or representative of the new culture.

Left before layoffs, loving it and praying for everyone else to rock at BC or find a new great job soon.

My wife told me she hasn’t seen me this happy in years. I’m happy with 4+ months severance basically, so I’m taking a nice break, you should too. This is just a small bump in the road and I’m personally very happy to not work for Broadcom.

The hard part is for those who still don’t know their fate yet in some international regions, unlike AMER and some regions. The mental struggle go on throughout the Xmas season and they’ve already been told to RTO immediately without an actual offer or idea. Honestly I don’t know the legality behind this mandate
