Arbitration Agreement

I'm on a transition contract and have been asked to sign an arbitration agreement from Broadcom HR. is this normal? Should I sign if I know I am about to be laid off and what are the repercussions if I don't sign? I don't want to jeopardize the severance and bonus but also don't want to be restricted from suing for them if necessary....

When I ran my own business (was a contractor), I had a binding arbitration clause in my standard contract for any final dispute resolutions. My lawyer, who drafted the agreement for me, said it was far better to have arbitration (or mediation) work things out than to get in to costly and time-consuming litigation disputes. You want to avoid going to court at all costs over employment issues. This just means that you agree to that. To me, it's not a big deal.

If you don't sign they will fire you, if you do sign they will sc--w you. Either way they win and you lose.

I sent the agreement to an employment lawyer. Awaiting their response and advice.

I excited about BC using my likeness in perpetuity, even using GenAI. The ideas are limitless.

No it's not normal at other companies to have to sign an arbitration agreement. Broadcom plan to sc--w all of you and they want to eliminate the possibility of a class action law suit so they make all of you agree to work with a arbitrator if you have a grievance, which you certainly will hence the agreement. If you want to know what can happen then read the agreement or have a lawyer read if for you if you can't understand the language. I took the severance. I'm enjoying time off while still being paid. You have joined the sweat shop. Good luck.

I got to be honest, the best option is to take all your paperwork to a solicitor and discuss your options rather than relying on an anonymous forum.
