Thread regarding VMware layoffs

On Monday make sure to collaborate with everyone

They want RTO so that the collaboration is there. Make sure to spend plenty of time "collaborating" with everyone at the office. Lets show how efficient RTO work is. Make sure to take both of your 15 minute breaks and all of your lunch too.

I dont even have a car. I just have a motor cycle. Driving that from Dublin to PA is too risky. If I die in an accident, its on Hock then.

I left VMware recently and hate seeing the fears become reality under the Hocktator. It’s one thing to move to an RTO policy. It’s another to say get your butts back into the office, you better walk on water, as well as not give people time to get things in order for RTO. Good leaders don’t approach things that way. It’s taken just a few weeks for me to truly see how toxic the Broadcom/VMware soap opera had become. Sadly, I have ex-colleagues already drinking the Kool-Aid. I’m all for capitalism and have no issue with RTO. I do have issue with the 1950s management style. Good luck all. For me, couldn’t be happier to have put this in the rearview mirror.

Yes you join after hour meetings from home. You can deduct the time from your work week.

Citation needed!

If WFH is not allowed, do they still expect workers to join off time team meetings from home?

Do you even need to ask this. Wtf is wrong with you guys.

Yes you join after hour meetings from home. You can deduct the time from your work week. Just like every other company here. Don't do this, expect a PIP, no bonus, RSU and ki-l your career at BC.

How long are you guys going to wallow in the denial stage.

Half of my team is in India.
We also need to work with folks in China.

I think you missed Hock’s comment on extended hours in office. He said that 8 am to 6 pm. So you won’t be able to work just the 8 hours. 9 is the new minimum.

If you don’t come to the office not only will you get fired but your supervisor or manager will be at risk of being laid off due to allowing insubordination.

Enjoy your wonderful Broadcom career folks!

Nah, not going in cuz my work demands lots of interaction with other regions who are out of my standard time zone. When they approach me and push for RTO, I will ask the question if they want me to work efficiently or lose 1-2days time due to delays of commuting. I’ll then work 8 hrs only not 12hrs a day.

I used work crazy 12 - 14 hour days. Now I will go to office and work exactly 8 hours and will not open my laptop at home.

I walk on hot coals, what does that entitle me to in terms of WFH?

I've been at VMware for nearly fifteen years, and any thoughts that I may have had about leaving are long gone. Like many of the remaining directors and managers, I'll gladly comply with any mandate that Broadcom leadership forces on us.

I've got 2 kids in college and I'm just trying to keep a low profile. Many of us in the EUC BU are in the same situation. We won't leave until they spin out the BU. Sometimes freedom of choice is not an option. You make the best of the worst case that you've been given.

OP thinks this will change leadership's minds more than it will cause them to be on the radar to be laid off... genius move.

Better to under perform and let them lay you off. Severance package has to be provided for the next 18 months. Get it done quick

The d-mbwits in Cork GS management want employees back in the office next week, even though we haven’t even started consultation yet. What is up with these clowns. To everyone in Cork, it’s business as usual until consultation is over. There is no official ask from Broadcom for anyone in Cork to come back to the office next week. None.

According to the research, across all industries where RTO mandates have been forced on employees, high-performance talent rejected it due to a lack of reasonable motivation.

Instead, they're searching for new roles at more progressive employers. So, if you haven't already done so, Monday is a good place to start your search. We all have a choice.
