Will BC Force The Change?

I wonder if BC are going to be able to change VMware as much as one person at the top wants to. I’ve read all the comments and seen the articles online about the company meeting, back to the office and so on, but no one can force a culture change that quickly. Surely people will do just enough and fall back to how everyone worked before? Or folk leave and where does that leave BC…. Could the power of the VMware culture be enough to change BC…. ?

The company is called Broadcom. Do you ever talk about Avago? Like Broadcom brand survived, VMWare brand will also survive. With 15K people who accept Hocks way. Like 20K people that he already has who do not question his way. People who submit to his dictatorship submit fully. He can run VMWare with 15K people. It’s just matter of time when he is able to filter down to the right set of 15K people that he needs. Rest will be removed or will leave.

“ As much as you need BC paycheck, BC needs you.”

Everybody is replaceable, and there are plenty of skilled people out there that will happily go to the office with the money Broadcom is providing.

“Hock is the greatest acquisition leader out there’

People may think that on what he’s done with radically different companies that have been acquired preciously. VMware is a whole different story in terms of size, culture, market position and most importantly as another post says the competition. I’m not reading, seeing or hearing anything that says the decisions so far are the right ones to make this a success. Which is what I am sure everyone wants.

That's only possible if the VMW folks unite with a plan. As much as you need BC paycheck, BC needs you. HT overspent on the acquisition (not including all the bribe money that passed under the table) and needs VMW employees to carry the load for a few years. They can't run VMW without the VMW resources. If VMW employees stick to their g-ns and don't return to the office, he can't fire all of them. But that will never happen so the dictator wins. And mark my words, 90% of you will be replaced within the next 2-3 years.

"what are they going to do, fire me" - person that was fired.

So much denial. Hock is a dictator and very direct. What you saw in the coffee talk is exactly who he is.

There will be no soft return to office. There are plenty of software developers in the sea that will take your job.

We didn't like it when he forced us back to office during COVID but he was always clear what his expectations were and that we can leave if we disagree. I stay because I like the work, my team, product and pay check. If that changes I will leave - not complain and try to bend the environment to my liking.

Think for a minute why Broadcom has such low turnover and think highly of Hock. We see his system works and he has given us paychecks we wouldn't have thought possible a few years ago.

If you have a better option than work for Broadcom you should take it. But Hock is probably the greatest acquisition / integration CEO of there.

Yes they will and the VMware brand will eventually cease to exist.
