Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Does Apple's suspension of modem development mean that many rounds of layoffs this year are wrong decisions?

Many rounds of personnel reduction plans this year are C&A thinks that Apple will have its own modem in 2024, but the current news is that Apple's development is blocked, does it mean that C&A has been fooled? I feel that C&A is like a clown, and has been claiming that Apple will have its own modem in 2024. Just to make layoff decisions.

The question is why is AAPL not able to develop its own modem?
Answer: Occam's razor answers the question. The same losers in Q went over there...

For those who said Apple will focus on 6G, they will need strong researchers who can pop a patent every month. They don't have those folks, they just poached some systems/embedded ex Q losers who use to take credit from others(just check their LinkedIn profiles achievements, it reads like they singlehandedly developed the entire 5G stack!)

Apple’s modem is based on their acquisition from Intel. Intel never had a viable modem and yet Apple buying this steaming pile of cr&p is somehow going to make it not stink? They still have the incompetent management structure that failed under Intel and continues to fail under Apple.

“5G FR2 is failure. Why bother with 5G if all you get is a larger data pipe (EPC) ? Apple will move all the modem research to 6G”

iPhone started supporting 4G in 2010, it was only 2020 when they start producing 5G iPhone. We have 4G and 5G, yet they support 2G, 3G. Are you saying they will develop 6G and just not support anything below 5G all together. 5G has just arrived, I don’t think it’s as easy to just move to 6G unless you are talking about 2035.
If all the cellular companies didn’t have 3-4 year payment plans on iPhone and buyback options, I wonder how many people will be afford those. Apple did whatever to Intel, but Qualcomm is definitely holding them on a leash. Keep bashing QC, yet we challenge and beat Apple in most fronts with a fraction of resources. I have to give it to QC

Apple made a two year agreement with QCOM for chips needed to support existing handsets. Once that was complete, Apple announces they aren’t moving forward with 5G Modem development. They didn’t announce that they will use QCOM modem, just that they will not move forward developing their own. Why? Because they have had an agreement with Intel all along. And since QCOM has slowed innovation, Apple basically just told the world QCOM has two years to pull some kind of magic trick, or we’re done.

But we know Apple continuously underestimates QCOM. 2 years? Like we need that long.

I can't see Apple abandoning their modem efforts, even if they aren't competitive. They need to keep pressure on QC and maintain leverage during pricing negotiations.

The reason Apple isn’t able to catch up in the modem race against Qualcomm is due to key patents built around Qualcomm modem.
Even after all the money in the world and years of tríes, Apple still can’t make it.

Is it a leadership issue on Apple side? Would a “Elon Musk, Apple ceo” resolve it?

Hard to say…

no one really cares if it is rumor. Because we all know apple won’t make a good modem and ultimately it shall shut down its modem business, maybe in a year maybe in a few years. But it will fail. Mark my words.

My man, did you take one unsourced blog post as the gospel truth? Can I interest you into buying some beachfront Nevada Property?

For all the articles saying Apple is halting its modem development, you can find just as many saying that these rumors are dubious at best. Only a few things are known for sure. 1) Apple has tons of money, way more than Qualcomm. 2) Apple is highly secretive. 3) Apple does not want to buy from Qualcomm.
