Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Another merger mess up. Non US residents affected

Anyone outside US has got charged Non residents withholding tax for the cash portion of merger as Vmware/BC have INCORRECTLY advised E-Trade to treat as Dividends. Make sure you raise with the stock admin team/help now case.

If you’re in the UK, it should not have been taxed like it has been.

HMRC sees the cash as capital, and it’s Capital Gains Tax which applies.

ETrade can’t make decisions for the company. It’s possible our VMware stock plan admin team was laid off in full and either messed it up before their last date or there isn’t anyone knowledgeable left anymore.
Contact Broadcom HR. We need to flood them questions so they rectify all the blunders with our stocks

You should be taxed. Several people have contacted E-Trade and everyone of them have been told VMware declared it as a Dividend payment when clearly it wasn't a dividend. Stock admin team will need to contact E-Trade. Be sure to mail them en mass or raise Help now cases

This whole stock treatment is a grade A clusterf*ck.

Stock withheld/blocked
Stock missing
Partial stock cash missing
Wrong tax treatment

Absolutely no clarity from anyone in VMware or our new overlords

I’ve received a notification of tax paid for $2200 as non US resident… are you saying that this tax shouldn’t be even charged at all? Do I raise the case within etrade? Thanks
