Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Why wont anyone acquire NetApp like they did VMW?

I know not everyone at VMW is happy about the acquisition - but, I am more interested in understanding why NetApp is not seen as a se-y hot blonde with big ti-s?

What tech? What is it that NetApp is doing well that others can't buy cheaper. Be specific. What Technology is NetApp truly leading in that isn't cheaper to acquire elsewhere or duplicate. Remember that acquisitions are costly. This has to pay out big time or be able to pieced apart once it is acquired to make back that money.

I believe the only power play would be for a scaler to purchase us for the tech. We are cheap compared to the acquisition budgets of the big three.

Not even joking. Please enlighten us on what exactly NetApp has of value for any company that is big enough to acquire them. What are the golden keys that NetApp holds that make the investment worth it?

What would NetApp bring to the party. Hardware is a commodity and NetApp has no cutting edge software.
It’s a dying company

Because storage is old and low margin. There are tons of technologies and companies doing what NetApp did. It isn't industry leading in any sense. Also, comparing NetApp to VMware is like comparing a kitchen kn--e to a Michelin restaurant. One can help you peel an apple to eat. One can cook you an entire meal that will address all of your hunger needs.
NetApp missed the acquisition train back in the mid 000s.

Im a Broadcom former vmware employee, netapp is legacy and too expensive. Hardware is commodity. Good luck finding a buyer and if you do most all will be let go.

But, I keep seeing these LinkedIn posts from my manager about how world class our team is and the SVP agrees too.

Because hardware is a commodity business, that nobody in their right mind wants to jump into let alone increase their spend

There have been rumors for at least 15 years that Cisco was buying NetApp. It comes up every couple of years. Clearly that has never happened. I'm sure there have been others over the years.
