They had 18 months to plan this out? Makes you realize just how good Workspace One is...this is brutal. I would expect this from an HP or an Oracle but not from a company who wants to be a leader. Awful.

I didn't know I was checking emails and my calendar wrong all this time. Every morning I would drool over my keyboard not knowing what meetings I was supposed to be attending or how to check emails. Deep down I knew there was something I wasn't doing right but what could I do. I'm borderline re--rded and only work on dinosaur products. If only we had futuristic software developers to help us and show us the way of a mail app installed on my computer. I'm going to yahoo this to learn more. Than you enlightened one.

No, we all have new laptops (mac pros/dells) as standard, monitors, standing desks. It's the same as in vmware. Most of offices are similar to vmware as well. Vmware never had the best offices, I can name a number of companies that had better offices be it larger orgs or startups. Vmware had above average but that's it. Also your office will stay as is, no one will rip the tables out and make you work in a dungeon don't worry.
Broadcom always had an army of haters (most likely people who were let go) who spend time on Internet gossiping and spreading belittling remarks because their feelings were hurt, it's your responsibility to filter through this and understand whats real and what's not. You get all you need, by that I mean new tech and tools that you got used to.

Let me reiterate: I use Outlook for my email, calendar, excel, ms word, box, slack in Broadcom...all the modern corporate tools, we got access to these as full time employees. G suite comes as standard in Broadcom but you don't have to use it.
If you have never used Outlook combined with Microsoft Office you have no idea what you are missing with the Google suite. GMail and it's calendar are like an elementary school version of a productivity app. Very very basic. Since Broadcom just needs to sell old stock and not innovate or attract new talent it will work fine.

Serious question. What does hosting your own email server get you. I've been using Gmail for years and never felt disadvantaged.
Same question for using an email client (app) vs Gmail web client.

Some internal resource sites fail at times, and then magically work a few minutes later; some just don’t work at all.
Tiles/Apps ("chicklets") appear and "magically" disappear. Access & Access/permissions denied in the space of minutes????
When I moved to Broadcom, it helped me to understand how entitled I was when part of other large vendors, expecting best software, bells and whistles from day one.
Expecting an Enterprise as large as Broadcom to use an MS Exchange Server is not being "entitled". It's pretty much the norm in any large company except for small businesses (and maybe Google since it's their product). I've worked in small 10-person businesses that also use Exchange. It's not that hard to admin and I don't think it's even that much more expensive than G Suite. Not having MS Office is a major hassle. Google's office suite isn't nearly as powerful especially when you get in to things like Excel. Google Sheets just stinks and it doesn't run natively.
And yes, we use Slack mostly, and we also use Outlook clients for Gmail.
I get that we're supposed to get Slack upgraded but we've been told to use Google Chat for now. The onboarding video literally says that we can use Outlook until next April but that we can't add our calendars to it. Maybe this is not correct but that's what the video said.
I haven't even gotten into any of the other software tools that are seriously antiquated. It's true that VMware blew an obscene amount of money on software. We had every toy you could want. Too many of them actually and it did slow us down. But there is a rational happy medium of using sensible current technology and being stuck in the 90s and early 2000s that literally prevents you from being productive.
Broadcom employee tools truly are the pits and have a negative impact on employee productivity. Gmail is horrible as a corporate solution. Some internal resource sites fail at times, and then magically work a few minutes later; some just don’t work at all. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve shaken my head and walked away for 5 minutes due to frustration.
I sure hope the vultures are happy and a restful night's sleep!!!!
Broadcom is different. You get basic tools to do your job, get creative. Sure some system are antiquated and some are frustrating.
I believe there is more to this than you state, depending on which (Org/Division within vmware, you currently work in : (
VMware customer facing/ "individual" tools are far superior.

It does get better, try and be patient. For example I just poked myself in the eye with a pencil and it distracted me from Okta and Gmail for a short while.

You get basic tools to do your job, get creative. Sure some system are antiquated and some are frustrating. However it is a sheer enjoyment not to be slave of bunch of software which quite frankly just adds a layer of complexity one on top of another instead of solving the issue. Sure, that SFDC, Power BI is nice to have, but we can either buy that, invest into more jobs to maintain these complex systems or contribute the money to your annual RSU, now what's your choice?
And yes, we use Slack mostly, and we also use Outlook clients for Gmail. Google it: it takes 2 min to install, but don't be a child expecting handouts from a company that is known for its efficiency. We get enough tools to get the work done and not more because we understand the importance of focus and eliminating noise. That doesn't mean that we take the cheapest bus home. We drive a corolla not a ferrari but have a huge trust fund for our kids and family. That's the type of company Broadcom is. Appologies for a long and poetic rant but hope you get the point.

If they won't pay for janitorial services who cleans the toilets? Who vacuums and mops floors in the bathrooms and near the cubes/offices? Doesn't seem like the best way to save money.
To be fair, Hock has said that they use whatever is least expensive for all their operating infrastructure, including IT. Also, they outsource whenever possible.
However, there are exceptions. Office cleaning services are an example of an unnecessary expense where savings can be passed on to employees and shareholders. It's not a big deal to empty your trash and clean your desk with paper towels and water.
Even Zimbra would be an improvement on this email experience.
Not disputing how bad the Broadcom transition is, but I wouldn't ever refer to WS1 as "good" (ok, maybe parts of it).
Seriously, they now own WS1 which is a perfectly good SSO product and now they want everyone to switch to Okta??!! And don't even get me started on "we only use Gmail in the Chrome browser" but you can use Outlook until April (but no calendar integration). So you're a huge corporation but you don't even provide an email client to your employees? WTF is this amateur night in Silicon Valley? LOL. At least let us use Thunderbird or something free. G Suite is what small businesses use--not large corporations.

The Broadcom systems are like going back to 1990. It’s jarring how disorganised and antiquated it all is. Having to re-auth every two hours and soon to be no slack. Google chat is utter garbage.

Okta is awful and ugly, and the constant need to reauthenticate. Where’s a decent single sign on capability?
