Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Cork

Expect the worst, as there's no optimistic outlook for Cork. My manager informed me today that we must return to the office next week, awaiting an email from upper management. Despite uncertainties about our future at Broadcom, pressure is mounting. It might be wise to distrust and explore better job opportunities, considering a redundancy package of two weeks for every year of service. Monetary concerns may need to be set aside.

Surely they can’t enforce anything different until after the consultation period has concluded?

The leadership in Cork appears to be akin to puppets, reacting anxiously to every piece of news and naively believing that their efforts can rescue the location. It's important to recognize that your management may not genuinely prioritize the well-being of the team but rather focus on safeguarding their own positions. As someone else pointed out, consider the abundance of directors and question their daily contributions, especially when their workload doesn't seem overwhelming.

The missing part when comparing Sofia office to Cork is that while Sofia is largely developers, Cork is mostly GSS. Support in VMware is not an easy job as the complexity is very, very high with stakes also being high. The transfer of knowledge cannot be done overnight. Plus Hock's method of merging PS and GS under the services umbrella with further planned huge investment, along with the requirement to keep a certain number of people employed in the country to benefit from the tax reduction initiatives in Ireland suggest costs+risks/benefit ratio would be very low

The number of directors, senior managers, and TSMs is excessive.

Gs is the only component that has the potential to survive pending sale of euc. Their contracts are to continue work until dday whenever that will be. I estimate 130 work in euc in cork. Everyone else their is screwed.
