Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum is Garbage

Part of Beaver Medical/EPIC Management in Redlands, CA, we were bought up by Optum and integrated (more like decimated) back in December 2022.

I was in IT and as soon as we were integrated, a hiring freeze was put in place and has been in place ever since. 4 rounds of layoffs (throughout Optum and our specific CDO) have occurred since then, one in March, one in August, one in September, and one just recently in November of 2023.

I saw the writing on the wall and left of my own accord back in June before I got caught in the layoffs as I saw no future with this evil company. Speaking specifically about IT, with a hiring freeze and continued layoffs, no positions are getting backfilled, not even with contractors anymore, my suspicion is they’re hoping IT people leave through attrition with the long term plan being fully outsourcing IT, probably offshore from what I’m seeing as more offshore contractors are brought in.

Had the company not been bought out by Optum, I probably would still be there a,one with many of my colleagues. But alas, this is a warning that if your org is getting acquired by Optum, run and don’t look back. Their slogan is “We Care”, what a joke, more like “We Don’t Care.”

They are quietly rehiring people they laid off earlier this year

Absolutely correct. Lorenzo sold everyone out and walks around proudly because of it. He also protects his pet at all costs. Hopefully he gets his someday.

Wholeheartedly agree! Same happening/happened with Change Healthcare. I also split as I was unwilling to sell my soul any longer and hurt customers and healthcare in general by continuing to put my good talents to use at the dumpster fire that is Optum/UHC.
Is it the CEOs who sell out to get their golden parachute and leave their teams in the dust or does UHG seek to “acquire” competitors or those with something they want to run it into the ground? Maybe it depends on the situation? What a f*ed up business model that truly hurts us all in the end as healthcare consumers, providers, etc. So glad I left - I will never look back. Their reputation su-ks out there - I hope it catches up with them sooner than later.

Beaver was a good group to work for but now with Optum it’s trash. Even the citizens of Redlands are complaining about their services in the community.

AR Billing was done the same way. This place is a joke. I was part of the November layoff.

Yes, Optum, but the real betrayal for IT was from one of their own. Lorenzo. He was and is the architect of their demise.
