OP, unrelated to Q, but in general "working hard" does not necessarily equate to great results
Higher-ups saving their own skins. Ever wonder how a company can have so many middle managers? Dir reporting to Sr. Dir reporting to Sr. Dir reporting to VP reporting to VP reporting to SVP reporting to SVP.
Your department was given a number, and the VP had to cut people to reach that goal. It could be your job is being transitioned to Hyderabad. Or your tasks are going to be spread out over the remaining team, possibly just dropped. Don’t take it personally. I’ve seen a lot of truly talented individuals be let go in RIFs.
What’s your age? If you are a regular engineer, but a little older than your peers, that could be a reason.
