Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Generous severance package

Is it a joke? They copied the VMware policy and sent us a letter stating that BC is now offering you a generous package?

The only reason you get this "generous" severance is because of VMware, if it was up to BC they would throw you out in the streets with nothing at all.

Maybe they rushed to use the VMW existing boilerplate severance text because HR didn't think the deal would close. I just get the impression that even after 18 months of preparation for this event, the severance Docs were thrown together at the last minute.

Nobody plans to be this disorganized intentionally. It's all very confusing to me.

The language is confusing in the emails and documents, you could been waiting for this for 5 years and still know. People were laid off in the Summer and got 4 months severance + 1 week per year served. Because of the WARN act I assumed we are getting severance of 2 months AFTER Jan 26 (official termination date.) I’m assuming a grand total of, from today, 4 months + 1 week per year served.

Will we get another 2 months of salary on 1/26( the end of WARN act period)?

The total of 4 months?

What's wrong with that? they were saying they had a cr-ppy one now it is a generous one. Not saying being in a position to receive severance is great.

OP here. I was referring to the language of the letter.
There is nothing generous about this package. It’s the VMware Policy and nothing more than that.

2 months of payroll + 2 months + 1 week per year. I think it's generous.

Ignore the negative posts. They are angry about something or someone else. Maybe they need to satisfy themselves.

I digress

Yes, they are using the VMware severance policy. That was agreed to during the acquisition discussions.
