Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Any other stores have trouble with pricing?

My store's pricing system was down this Black Friday. We had to use our phones to scan prices and put those into the register. At times debit cards had to be run as credit. The situation was embarrassing, and lead to very long lines.

Was this a local thing, or did it happen all over the company?

Yes, had this issue in our store as well. Our store is two buildings, with a Women’s and Men’s side. While working on the Men’s side we had the debit card issue, and had to run debit cards as credit cards. This has been an issue since it first came up in a transaction for me last year. The register will come up with a prompt that says: Card not valid for Debit “Card is a debit only card that is not eligible for debit authorization.” And what I mostly found was that it was mostly only BOA cards, and occasionally Wells Fargo. The work around that worked at the time after restarting the transaction a few times was just to bypass the PIN number. I assume the fix that was patched that people saw company wide was the prompt on the screen asking the customer to consent to charging it as credit, since it was my first time seeing that prompt ever.
The System has its flaws, and this one is one of them. The other issue is foreign card transactions. (I believe this issue has been patched, but who knows anymore.) This may not be an issue for stores who don’t get many tourists, but for those who get foreigners, when they insert the card the register would say: “Approved.” Then have the customer pick US dollar, or whatever currency they wanted associated to the card, But then the card immediately would decline. The trick before the patch was the customer had to leave the card inserted until they picked the currency.
With these wild system issues, I end up just telling the customers that the register is being a bit slow from being overworked, and we all just got to be patient with it. :)

I left at 1:00 so I didn’t see those problems but from talking to other employees, we had those problems mostly in the mens building. We always have problems there. They just don’t care about that building as much.
