Squash the hiring in De Soto! Visit our shop for yourself! We don’t need anymore people, we can furlough 25 guys if managers would do their job and force the guys to work! Your upper management has the wool over your eyes!

Make DeSoto Great Again, GET RID OF ALL THE MANAGERS.
I do work there and here’s the thing, would it surprise me if they shut down the shop? NO because UP does stupid sh-t all the time, but here’s an example why they haven’t (yet) 5 years ago they took bids on new auto flex cars, I think we built them for around 80-90k the next lowest bid from a scab shop was around 130k so they gave it to us. We basically keep the scabs in check, if not for us the non union shops would charge double what we charge. Believe it or not desoto is actually a profit making shop, we don’t just work UP cars we work cars owned by several other class 1’s. Like I said in the beginning I’m not naive, they will shut us down whenever they want but it would be a mistake soon realized if they do.
Consider for a second why they would be hiring more people at Desoto… a place that has competitively available alternatives all around the country. It’s a fact that the UP loves outsourcing work or eliminating the need to do certain things. It’s also a fact that Givens hates the car department. So, why would they be building up its capabilities…
Just like fixing items around your house before you sell it, they are going to finally be able to do what Vena and Givens have wanted for so so long, to sell that place off. Keep working hard to hit your numbers, keep up that fake safety record, they are going to sell that place and you’re helping them make it more appealing to buyers.
Source: it’s been openly talked about for years in headquarters. Anyone saying otherwise is lying (imagine that, the glass palace lying)
I’m guessing the OP is probably one of the few people that got sh-t canned not long ago at Desoto. I would be shocked if not.
Don’t be a POS hater just because Desoto is hiring, that’s a good thing anywhere. Why would you suggest or even bring up furloughing carman? I agree that there is way too many managers and they all su-k a-s but it’s ignorant to suggest they should or could furlough people. Ge-z
The shop was more productive when there were 2 or 3 managers, not 12 like now. The managers are ki-ling moral there, what happened to the talk of replacing managers with Leadman?
Be careful what you wish for. Maybe that whole facility is a problem that needs looked into.
