Thread regarding VMware layoffs

The reason offers were stopped

A record amount of employees declined offers that spooked BC.

Solid performers at every level, including upto VP.

Employee power!! FTW!

You can't treat people like sh-t and expect to toe the line. People with any self-respect and competence are rejecting by droves.

Fu-k BC!

"Are very high performers who can decline a better monetary TC package and get a job asap in this market that exceeds or at least match the VMW TC."

The BC offers are not better. People have been looking since the announcement was made and have been leaving all along, but the rate of leaving has increased as the deadline approached.

So you are telling me that majority of Vmware’s 37k employees are belonging to 2 categories :-

  1. Too old so looking at this opportunity to take retirement.
  2. Are very high performers who can decline a better monetary TC package and get a job asap in this market that exceeds or at least match the VMW TC.

I know that there is overwhelming acceptance of offers. People who didn’t get offers are writing these salty posts. These are the same people who were armchair experts in trade war and geopolitics claiming to this deal won’t close.

Just because a someone’s someone has not accepted it does not mean the silent majority who accepted does not exist.

By the way the high performers who really wanted to leave this mess have already switched the company in last 12 months.

"Downvote away because it doesn’t fit your personal narrative, but those are the facts."

Will do. Because you and I know the truth. Many offers were declined by skilled VMW employees in favor of severance. Of course, the many desperate and 'near-retirement' folks are compliant, as you would expect. Our customers know what to expect from the remaining leftovers. That's the other downvote you need to be concerned about.

In my BU the head of partner marketing declined the offer and so did the head of product management as well as several sales leaders. That is only the ones that I know of. I'm sure that there are many more.

As someone who knows the percentage of acceptance offers, this thread could not be further from the truth. The overwhelming majority, as in 90+ per cent accepted the offer.

Downvote away because it doesn’t fit your personal narrative, but those are the facts.

You can ignore them all you want to have fun, just know you are in fanstasy land.

"The vast majority of high-performance VMW talent prefers severance."

I agree. I'm thankful for my time at VMW, but now I'm ready to move on to join a team that will be focused on new technologies and credible growth (e.g. cloud and AI apps).

I'm not afraid to start over. In fact, I'm excited to leave and explore opportunities.

"There is a reason why 20k BC emps make 5 times more revenue and 8 times more margin per head as 38k VMW emps."

This is the Hock Tan Spreadsheet business model, cut headcount, create fear, reap profit.

In other words, it's exactly the reason why there were so many declined offers, and why AVGO stopped sending the offer emails. The vast majority of high-performance VMW talent prefers severance.

Nothing was stopped. BC has different payment packages (eg no company cars, bonus proportions, team targets, RSUs for all positively rated employees instead of only a few) than VMW and if you think BC will adopt the VMW scheme or allow exceptions you are dreaming. That’s why some decline offers. There is a reason why 20k BC emps make 5 times more revenue and 8 times more margin per head as 38k VMW emps. From Hocks view VMW is a great company with great talent but with a bad cost/income ratio and a spending Eldorado. That he will fix first.

I am really surprised to see people responses here, they are talking like they know everything. I think decisions has been made, people who were or will receive offers identified were already chosen in advance. Stop rattling if you are not one of those. Accept it or move on.

Total BS.

I spoke with a VP, very few offers were declined in their org.

I agree – those with transferable skills in high demand will leave. It's not too big a challenge for them to find a new employer in no time.

"A record amount of employees declined offers that spooked BC. Solid performers at every level, including upto VP. Employee power!! FTW!"

Let's be really clear here. Broadcom doesn't need all vmw employees. Broadcom only needs 25%-40% (together with existing employees) to stay as this would be more than enough to run a sucessfull business.

Broadcom doesn't need your VPs apart from the ones asigned new roles already, they don't need your superstar LinkedIn influencers; these could go to another "next thing" startup
with flashy marketing and no prospect to become profitable in any forseable future (and eventually being bought out by Broadcom or another "boring" vendor that earns more than it spends).

Broadcom need solid performers, true. Solid performers will be rewarded handsomely and beyond what VMware can offer.

This website reeks of desperation. People who are not getting offers or the ones living in their golden VMware shell, suddenly facing a reality check and becoming animals (or maybe showing their true colors?). G-d help us.

“ As a hiring manager, VMW has been one of the places I've told my recruiters to look for talent. Sure, there might still be some talent that stayed, but anyone who made the transition is not someone I want in my org and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in that.”

Superiority complex here I think - the talent wouldn’t want to join your org with an attitude like that.
The attrition has been minimal, and most of the talent has stuck around to see this through to the end. The ones I know that have left have done so because they knew their roles were disappearing, or their performance was low and they were likely to be performance managed out of the business before they’d get their severance

Believe what you want. 30 Oct was a forecasted date of closure. It was not a magical date to coincide with the final approvals, like this week was. Approvals were expected well in advance. Offers were rolling throughout the week, and the majority were sent. But not all.

I'm a hiring manager. Though we don't have direct confidential insight, I know more than people thinking there will be an employee uprising. We are not BC apologists, we've just been paying attention.

The offers were stopped because there was advance notice that China was going to delay the decision.

That is a complete fabrication.

Up until Oct 30th we were being told that the deal will close. We even have emails to prove it.

The only people staying on are H1B slaves who have their visas sponsored by their slave lord BC.

BC shills are working overtime it seems.

I can also confirm this isn't true. It sounds great in your head, to be the David fighting Goliath. To stand up against the oppressor. But, most people don't care. They want the stability of maintaining their job.

The offers were stopped because there was advance notice that China was going to delay the decision.

" This isn’t true. I know for a fact that very few rejected the offers. Most people are thrilled to get any offer. "

But of course, a lot of the talent that could get another job already did so.

As a hiring manager, VMW has been one of the places I've told my recruiters to look for talent. Sure, there might still be some talent that stayed, but anyone who made the transition is not someone I want in my org and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in that.

Good luck getting anyone to believe the "VMware by Broadcom" propaganda. LOL!

Reality is a lot of people got lazy and complacent hoping the deal won't happen, or layoffs won't happen so there'll be a lot of desperate people that haven't updated their resume in years.

Nobody in their right mind who aren't bribed wants to work for that yoke. The current employees in broadcom are clearly delusional. They are also changing the offer, going forward it will only be work for BC of lump sum. No more work for us or take the lump sum.
