Thread regarding VMware layoffs

I was really hoping the deal would fail

I'm too old for this sh-t. I'm too old to be looking for a new job so close to retirement. I'm happy for people who are satisfied with this outcome, but for me, this is the worst possible scenario.

I guess you had no VMW stock? Because if the deal had fallen through, it would likely be worth $70 instead of $190. A long, drawn out _successful_ deal was the best outcome for me.

This is going to sound like a broken record but you had 18 months to do something about it. 5 minutes on Google tells you BC is a sh---y company that also treats their employees like sh-t. That's what I saw and the reason I started looking for another job immediately and now work at an another company.

If you didn't want to be in this situation you had the same option. You knew this was going to su-k. You knew there would be massive layoffs. Finding a new job is a pain in the a-s. But you'll find another and hopefully be done and retire. But honestly, waiting to the bitter end was your call and the reason you're in this situation.

You aren't on your own with that thinking. I am sorry you too are facing such uncertainty. Depending on your type of role you do it can be a huge number of hoops to jump through before you get a new job but the big thing is you have excellent VMware experience which technology partners are going to need.
I have a friend who went through something similar already and he took on the advice he was given, which was focus on the type of new role you want and see yourself enjoying it and the joining process going smoothly and then imagine starting on the first day and soon the weeks will pass. The premise being, where you put your focus your energy will flow and you create your experience. So focus on what you want not on what you don't want. It really helped my friend. Now to take my own medicine! Best of luck

It's not about whether we're too old to be looking for a new job, it's whether there's an imperative need for one. I'm not young but I know I can't afford to be without a job, so I started searching as soon as we were informed of the three options for our fate. While learning in a new environment is daunting, I needed to step out of my comfort zone to sustain my income flow.

You are not alone in your concern. Age discrimination is common in the U.S. tech sector.

Regardless, try to stay positive knowing that others are in the same situation as you.

Early retirement? Some day trading? We had a long time to prepare for this.

Nobody who wasn't on the take wanted this deal but as Jesus said, a camell has more chance of fitting through the eye of a needle than the rich have of getting into heaven. The sad reality is mist of these people don't believe in god or say they do but could not tell you his name. Those who do bad to others will have it come back on them. The situation is rubbish but you will be better off in 12 months.

Too old, yet apparently still acting out like a child - you can always get another gig

Then take control of your situation. You are in control of your own destiny. Stop being a pU--y and sort out FFS!!
