It’s so sad. I feel my importance dropped as I made sales goals and achieved for years. No chance this isn’t a done deal so the sunset is coming. I honestly feel this is evil in such that greed cause this to happen while good people lose their livelihood and perhaps some marriages.
It didn’t have to be this way. Customers will pay higher prices & the government never seems to stop mergers when destruction is the only 20/20 of a merger. I do believe in karma- so we will see how the players and company make out. Perhaps it was meant to be, but Instill see no good in any of this for VMWare… which was at its best with Pat G.

Losing your marriage over this? How can you be this upset over a company, get some perspective and your priorities in order man.
OP climb down off your little horse. The earth will continue to rotate without you and everyone else.
This post is troubling on so many levels. I agree, seek help for your sadness.
Besides, Pat Gelinsiger is a hypocritical evangelical Christian. He had no meaningful or substantive part in VMW's success. The man has a future as a TV evangelist, not as a credible CEO. Just watch him fail again, he can't fix the deep-rooted culture issues at Intel.
VMWare people will leave, it won’t be the same. There are lots and lots of companies out there and one or two will be the next VMWare how it used to be culture and all!
Those who are denying that divorces happen due to layoffs have not been around long or paid attention. Eventually you will learn that woman don't care about your trama and they are always trying to upgrade their situation.
If work is defining your life to this extent then you need therapy. Please know your feelings are not normal, especially if you are working for a business that you didn’t create or own.
I'm sorry you are sad, but no gig lasts forever.
A Manager I had over 30 years ago changed my perspective on life forever with one sentence: "You work to live, not live to work". Grab some perspective over the weekend, life will be different but things will be ok.
Loose their marriage? WTF are you talking about?! Anyone that divorces someone for getting laid off is completely unhinged and the marriage breakup had nothing to do with work.
I hate to tell you, if you lose your marriage over Broadcom purchasing VMware, you didn't have that much of a marriage to begin with... it was a matter of time
