Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Thanksgiving unemployed

I can’t help but to think how unjust this world is. Always people with money win. I’m here thinking how will I make it through this thanksgiving knowing I won’t have a job on Monday to support my Family while Magoo and others collecting checks I will never see in my entire lifetime.

I get the unjust part but wasn't this something that was in pipeline for months now and everyone was aware of it. Everyone is getting a decent package. I know people who are definitely happy with the deal closure. Utilize next couple of months to relax and rejuvenate your mind and come prepared for Feb march when job market will be active again.

Comparing yourself to Raghu is a waste of your time and energy.

Not everyone is CEO. Some people make more money than us always.

Control what you can. If you want control over who makes the most at a company, become the founder.

Life will go on and you will succeed too. Jealousy is an emotion that will not help you.

I am all for being selfish, because no-one else is going to look out for you, but with that you also have to take responsibility for your own life. I'm sorry you feel like the world is out to make you miserable, but I would wager that if you are currently employed at VMware, you probably have a place to live, food on your plate, decent job prospects, and a little bit of money tucked away in addition to severance that you will be getting if you are laid off. I believe that no one has yet received a layoff letter, so you are complaining about a situation that has not yet arrived and making yourself feel miserable. Remember that you are the main person that is in control of your life, and though it the news these days is awfully depressing, count yourself lucky that you have a home to live in, and that large parts of your family are not being ki-led in acts of war, by oppressive government regimes, or due to poverty and famine.

You are most definitely at least in the top 20% of the most fortunate people in the world.

I understand your feelings and feel the same. It does seem the like the worst people, the greediest of people, win...MD is a total sh*t head and yet he gets a $22B pay day. I get it. It hurts and feels bad. But karma is a thing...

Unfortunately... this is the nature of the tech industry and US job market in general. No job is secure. In an era where a bad quarterly earning report can cause a company to cut headcount to please investors for short-sighted temporary gains I for one always remember that I could be out of a job at any time. I have had to change jobs so many times I can't even remember all of the companies I've been at. One should always save and stash away and prepare for this. Good luck to you all.

Stay strong! Process and grieve the way you need to. We will find new jobs and land on our feet. This will be a valley, but there are many more mountains to climb!

There will be few cheers, and many tears, once the deal is finalized.

So many loyal employees are going to be impacted. The cost and expense of the deal delay could easily result in additional headcount cuts. VMW shareholders won't feel the cost-related burden of the delay, in the same way.

Good luck to all. Stay safe and in good health during the holiday season.

that is life... it can be harsh sometimes and Broadcom has been known to be one of the most brutal companies around when it comes to this type of thing. Only the strong will survive so we must build up our defenses.
