Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Stop bringing in FTC now…

Don’t start the FTC thing now.

FYI, I didn’t get an offer. But, I’m happy that I have a conclusion and happy for my colleagues with offers. They have gone through enough already.

Stop the negativity. Wish Broadcom well and move on in life. I’ll, come this news year.

Best wishes to you all.

Well, it’s official. Santa Claus and the Thanksgiving Turkey have given approval for the deal, but there is a chance that the Easter bunny is about to throw a chocolate egg and some fur into the gears before the 27th. Until then, more whinging from those about to be fired and more douchebaggery from the bitter folks who are “too cool” to care about all this.

Someone said this was the gutting of an American Icon. I agree and Hock Tan is synonymous with Carl Icahn and TWA. Destroy the company you take over. Destroy families. Destroy jobs. Kinda hard to happy for those that get to stay when we all know the consumer will pay higher prices - just like workers will pay the ultimate price is job losses.

Cost cutting and cutting innovation in the cloud reduces competition and increases prices for customers. This also reduces opportunities for employees resulting in lower wages. 1 in 5 customers will need to go to higher cost competitors.

its literally the same person just parroting the same FTC BS. its not gonna change the fact that BCOM is gonna come in and lay people off tomorrow. what does it matter if the FTC comes in later, IF they do at all?
the FTC has also lost like every recent court case, they're not gonna stop this even if they try, theres nothing monopolistic about this deal. what are they gonna say that the EU and UK already havent

OMG people are desperate for every word that comes out of BC. I understand that you have been hanging on to every thread. But unfortunately the fact is you have to wait. The court battle is going to get started soon.

OMG people are so desperate to make this deal fail some way or other. Yes this has been a long process but all similar deals go through this process. At least we did not have to go through court battles like Activision folks. It’s done and everyone needs to move on. Find a new job or get down to working for BC or any new spin-off lord. Why is it so hard for some people to accept the facts. I will be laid off for the first time in my life. Yet it’s a strange feeling of relief. I can now 100% concentrate on getting my next job. Don’t have to do fake work and don’t have keep looking for news on approvals. Moving on. Good luck everyone !!

"100% the people who were saying "China will ki-l the deal" just moved on to saying "FTC will ki-l the deal". the FTC is not gonna reverse anything lol"

What does the FTC have to reverse if there was no approval in the first place? Are you going to say that they don't need FTC approval? Maybe another reminder would be nice

https://www.ftc.gov/enforcement/competition-matters/2021/08/adjusting-merger-review-deal-surge-merger-filings

"However, the law permits the antitrust agencies to determine that a merger is illegal even after the companies have merged and even if the merger was subject to premerger review. When the FTC does not challenge a transaction prior to its consummation, this does not constitute an “approval” or “clearance” of the deal, and the agency maintains the right to challenge a deal regardless of whether it was initially investigated. The FTC always has the right to take such further action as the public interest may require."

Okay, best of luck to those that stay. As soon as I get my severance cash I'll celebrate to finally be rid of this place, and the hopeless outlook for the business under AVGO control.

Post from TheLayoff.com

I understand it requires majority approval by his reindeer (i.e. 5 of the 9). Guess we'll see if we were on the naughty list soon...

First they said China approval not required. Then they said it will close without China approval. Now they are saying don't bring in FTC. The deal will collapse on 26.

"Why did FTC not approve the deal after a lengthy review? FTC when asked said it had no comment on the deal."

Wait for it.. someone's gonna come and say that's because they don't need FTC approval even though that's not entirely true

I fully intend to put this experience behind me as soon as possible. I'm actively interviewing and eager to move on to a much better role with a new employer.

Broadcom Software will have to optimize its asset spreadsheet with me on it.

I think we've all been through enough, this was a badly botched acquisition, hopefully the "welcome to Broadcom" will be handled better.
