Ahh the Christmas Season where I train a bunch of teenagers who just don't care, don't do what is asked, and call off twice a week or more. Then to make it better I'm asked to extend every shift to cover their hours. But I guess I should grab as many hrs as I can because in January I'm sure I'll be back to 28 hrs a week. I used to bend over backwards for these clowns but why should I care about a company that doesn't care about me. I'll be surprised if we make it through half of 2024. Inflation is ki-ling everyone. If you have to decide whether to buy a On 34th outfit or groceries the choice is clear . People are not buying as much because they just can't afford it. The default rate on credit cards is rising but just keep opening those charges.

We have two open manager positions that have been "frozen" for expected upcoming job reductions in January. We have nobody to help coach and guide the new teenagers who signed up for seasonal jobs with an expectation that someone would be around to help show them what they need to do and answer questions. Instead, we throw them into the deep end of the pool and hope the can swim, but we are surprised when they start calling out and don't meet expectations, like they are going to learn through some sort of osmosis training process.
You get what you pay for, hiring people on the phone and paying them slave wages isn’t the way to run a business. Goodluck
We ASTs can tell you that for every one new hire you deal with, we deal with ten that never make it to the floor. Grab the hours while you can because hours always get cut after inventory. Even worse, they keep useless new hires in permanent positions, and then in late January or early February cut the job targets, spreading the limited hours even thinner. Make yourself indispensable now so that when the cuts happen, you'll get priority for any open shifts.
