Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Are US employees without offers laid off?

I just read Raghu’s final milestone email and the way I interpreted his message was that those without offers in the US are laid off. Is that y’all’s understanding? Any clarification is appreciated

I am in Tanzu Sales Solutions Engineering and have not received any letter, however, all my other peers did receive an offer letter on 24th Oct, so should I consider 100% I will have no offer letter next week and will get a Severance/LayOff letter.

Most likely, yes, you are being laid off. However some folks didn't accept their offers and there a SMALL handful that didn't go out.

The exception is EUC. No one in EUC got an offer letter because it'll be an entirely different process for that group. There are very few layoffs expected. Most are going to get a welcome letter from Broadcom. So, if you're EUC, don't sweat it. You're probably OK for now.

My department was laid off in the first round (although they can stay until August) but I have heard nothing, so I doubt no letter equals lay off in every case.

Not all letters have gone out yet, letters were put on hold when the date of the 30th was known to slip. Some BUs have not sent any letters yet no matter the location. So all this nonsense of if you haven’t received a letter you’re out, is just that, nonsense.
It’s not over until it’s over. So see what happens over the next few weeks, don’t assume the worst.

It depends on which is your org. If you are in Ops and if you don’t have transition offer or rare full time offer then yes you might be on layoff list. If you are in one of the BUs that is being spinned off then also you might receive any offers. No idea when these will actually be spinned off. Till then you will be BC employee with existing pay package. If you are in BU hat BC will keep and you don’t have an offer then chances are you could be on layoff list. This is only for US.

OMG! How could people be asking about letters? They went out on Oct 23 & 24. it was very clear then: how can anyone still hold on to hope? ridiculous

Europe and Asia employees have not yet received either their offer letters or severance letters. Not sure if EUC has received anything either. Hopefully everyone knows their fate by Monday.

If you didn't receive an offer letter from Broadcom several weeks ago, expect a severance letter in the next few days informing you have been laid off and details about your severance package.

There is no further clarification unless you know something that no one is telling anyone. Furthermore, over analyzing the white space in between the words isn’t going to help you. If you don’t have a previously sent letter and you are in the US, you are in the same position pretty much as anyone else in the world who doesn’t yet have an offer letter. I would be making plans for your next career move as your plan B if you prefer to stay; otherwise, if you don’t plan on staying anyway, then you should already have that planning underway as your plan A. Don’t wait for others to make your life choices for you.
