Are we still eligible to receive state unemployment even if we get a severance package? I would assume one of the questions unemployment asks is if we received a severance. Do we still qualify regardless? Do we just say no to that question?

In my state, your severance amount is deducted from unemployment, but not when severance is withheld unless you sign a contract not to sue your employer over anything. In that case, you get all of the unemployment.
In earlier layoffs, VMware made you sign. I have to guess it'll still be true for this upcoming one.
In most states you should be able to get unemployment starting from the time you are no longer employed by VMware - meaning you can't get it during the 60 day WARN period (or garden leave). But if you get severance for months at VMware - 2 months + 1 week for every year at VMware, you can get both your severance and unemployment. There are certain requirements to keep benefits (by state).
Don’t thin& twice about it, get all the money you can and worst case you might get caught. Works for Trump
Severance does not affect unemployment in my state. Best to check your state unemployment website.
Uhhh probably not
