I saw the article where basically the retiring STB chairman Oberman tore into Vena about the continuance of layoffs at the UP. He also highlighted that the other class 1's got away from furloughs, but the UP didn't. Now I'm not calling Vena stupid here, but he really needs to be a lot smarter as the CEO. This is exactly the type of attention Vena doesn't need as the new CEO. When you have government entities calling you out, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM! Go read the article! It's a bit entertaining.

Mr. Primus was very critical of Fritz and the operations at the UP. As much as I hate government, Mr. Primus is someone you just don't mess with. I have great respect for Primus. If he does take the chair, then Vena better cut the sh1t! Primus will not take sh1t from Vena!
The 'JV Team' better hope Primus isn't the new Chairman...
@2fot Why is what UP does the STB’s fault? Obviously what Oberman did either directly or coincidentally got the other carriers to improve.
If it’s so bad then why didn’t STB Chairman Oberman do anything about it?
I cant help but laugh at the little $h!t running this company. He keeps laying people off, then later on when they post a few jobs UP will publicly exclaim “we are fixing our labor shortage by adding x-x jobs!”. All they are doing now is buying time. Eventually americans and or the govt will force UP to cut the cr-p and then management can turn to the shareholders and tell them the bad news about their stocks plummeting value.
Furloughed workers were offered elsewhere to go work??
BS...walked right off the property and fired. Attendance violators especially
I bid on jobs where I barely work!! Lol
Agree with poster who said no one is coming help…but it’s better than no govt intervention even if it is just lip service…investors pay attention to this stuff
In reference to furloughing MW, Beth said, "We allow these workers to take the rest of the year off and then come back to work in January." She is such an @$$hat. She tries to make it sound like she is doing them all a favor. Truthfully, she could take the rest of the year off, never come back and no one would notice. The railroad would still run without her.
STB is like the FRA.. All bark no bite.. You could actually do something about it.. But the $$$ is too good
Here’s the link, thank you Marty for saying what all of us are thinking:

Way to be positive! All of the negative attention that the RR's have gotten in the last few years, is what started the hearings that were held. It's also the reason Fritz is gone. The UP was rated as the worst railroad in North America for a few years with Fritz at the helm. The Unified Plan 2020 version of PSR also helped his ouster from the company. Vena has been back at the UP for just over three months, and he already has a federal agency calling him out. I have to agree with the OP on this one. JV can't keep playing his layoff game without someone noticing. Then to make it worse for JV, the other class 1 RR's did abandon the layoff practice. I think that speaks louder than the article itself. PSR was a failed plan from the beginning. The UP isn't doing any better with Vena in charge. The federal government won't let the UP fail, and that will include having Vena removed if the situation warrants it.
That's cute. I'm sure that letter will make UP change its ways. There's no help coming for us. We're on our own.
