The 4th variation is to make you think your getting a 10K bonus. Then fire you a week before your vested to receive said bonus.
Not everyone got a retention letter and there were three variations of the retention. First was only 5k to stay with Hess until close with no retention afterwards. Second was 5k to stay on with Hess until close with 25% of base pay in two installments upon retention. Third was 10k to stay on with Hess until close and 50% of base pay upon in retention in two installments.
CVX also had a hand as to the language in the the retention letters as part of the purchase agreement.
I don't think everyone got one...
Really focus on the wording in that retention letter. Something fishy about the part that says, if your employment is terminated for any reason before close you forfeit the retention paymentand bonus. Note it doesn't say, if you QUIT before close/vesting dates you forfeit. I read this to mean they could literally let you go right before close with no cause and you could end up getting nothing! You could stay thinking you'll get those payments and walk away with zero! I have no trust in Hess.
The question is… what was in it?
