Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Is it too much to expect a proper severance?

I was laid off before and received severance. While that layoff came as a surprise to me and was quite devastating personally, at-least I got severance that saw me through a few months.

Over here, especially for India employees, the severance plan is not even known or shared on source.

People who've not received any offers (in India) such as myself, are certainly staring at a bleak future. At-least give them the severance and let them go.

I think that's too decent thing for Broadcom to do?

Please know your rights. You're at-least entitled to a notice period and severance pay in India.

Here are some links that might help:

For example see this:

Severance pay is offered to employees who retire, are laid off, or reach the end of the contractual agreements.
One month’s salary must be paid to employees who have worked for a year or more.
For mass termination in protected sectors, three months of wages must be offered to employees.

> The Payment of Gratuity Act entitles employees to gratuity payment after five years of continuous service.
> The Industrial Disputes Act of 1972, also states that retrenched (involuntarily dismissed) workmen must be given 15 days of severance pay for each year of service that they have completed.

I have not seen concept of severance in India in general. Mostly it is depends on employer and they follow notice period which ranges from (1-3) months. And you can’t do 2 jobs in India. New employer expects you to produce either experience letter from previous employer or resignation letter/email. Also they do BG check, so they can catch you very easily.
Let's c what BC does. Op treat this time as your severance and start looking for new job. Good luck

You are still getting paid and can use this time to find your next job.
Your whining shows that either you found a new job and want to double dip and get as much severance as possible from vmw before being forced to quit or you want to start searching for the next job after you are terminated, in which case, keep whining

OP is clearly not whining, he is merely expressing his frustration and disappointment regarding the lack of transparency and inadequate severance package for India employees. Any normal person with empathy and understanding would feel the same way in this situation.

Instead of dismissing the OP's concerns as "whining," why don't you try to understand the perspective of those who are facing uncertainty and potential financial hardship? The OP is not here to double-dip or freeload, he is simply advocating for fair treatment and a transparent process for all affected employees.

Not everyone chooses to dwell in negativity and bitterness like you do with your comment.

I would expect less need for severance there though as you’re less expensive employees- so more likely to be retained. <

This statement is wrong at so many levels, I don't even know where to start !

Sorry folks. When dealing with pooh no one can talk about how he screwed them. Otherwise they will disappear. Don't take it personal.
