Thread regarding VMware layoffs

So Dell and SL used scare tactics to accept VMware buyout offer?

So this is some wild a-s stuff. You might wanna read that whole article to learn about Michael Dell vs Carl Icahn feud.

Key highlights

  1. MD mocked Icahn's portfolia return on investment and commented "What is the opposite of Play Nice But Win?"
  1. How their feud started

"The billionaires' feud started in 2013, when Icahn tried to stop Dell from taking the PC company he founded private at a $24 billion valuation. Icahn built a stake and made a counter-offer, forcing Dell to eventually up his bid to $13.88 a share.

Icahn later described Dell's board as a "dictatorship" – and Dell responded by saying Icahn was "a bad guy" with "no ethical boundaries"."

  1. Icahn accused MD and SL of using "scare tactics" to get shareholders to accept (obviously Broadcom's) buyout offer

"Tensions reignited five years later, when Icahn sued Dell in an attempt to scupper its attempts to go public. Icahn said Dell and his private equity backers Silver Lake were using "scare tactics" to try to get the tracking stock VMWare's shareholders to accept a buyout offer."

Before Dell went public, again, it was rumored that there would be a reverse merger of Dell (a then private company) into VMWare as a way to take Dell public. That didn’t happen for a myriad of reasons.

Dell did IPO instead and VMware paid special dividend to spin-out completely from Dell once it was tax advantageous to do so.

If AVGO deal dies, it’ll be interesting to see what happens next.

Considering it says the buyout, and then tensions 5 years later... it doesn't seem like this is the BC buyout at all.

Or I could be wrong and that "buyout" could refer to something else related taking Dell inc back into stock market
