Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

So long U.P

Worked here almost 10 years. Laid off 4 times, in the mechanical dept. This time right before the holidays with probably no 1k bonus! I never have a bad attitude twards a company, but I really hope they get what's coming to them.

I can't see how they can't give us the $1000 bonus when it was part of a $5000 in bonus they owe it to you no matter what But that's just my opinion

@1dbf ok so what's the difference again? Someone being laid off is physically the same as being furloughed. In both cases, YOU'RE NOT WORKING! No job + no work=NO PAYCHECK! Please do a better job of explaining of how being furloughed is better than being laid off. A furloughed UP employee is considered an INACTIVE employee, not active! Active UP employees are working and receiving normal employment benefits. Furloughed/laid off employees don't receive anything. See the difference?

After taxes and RRB gets their cut, that 1000$ be down to about 475$. Wouldn't loose sleep over it

Plenty of furloughed employees got the Covid bonus a few years back. I don't know if this new agreement bonus is worded differently though.

By definition, furloughed employees are active employees who are currently not getting assigned work - that’s the key distinction between being furloughed and being laid off. A lot of benefits are worded such that you have to have performed work during a period to receive the benefit, and those benefits would not apply to furloughed employees. Furloughed employees are entitled to benefits for active employees.

Read your contract…you need to be AN ACTIVE employee as of Dec1st…. Bottomline…if your furloughed before Dec 1st, DON’T COUNT ON THAT bonus…if you get it, just pretend it’s found $$

As long as you worked one day in November you are eligible for that bonus…
