Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

In theory, "verticalizing" makes sense (I guess). In execution, SLT has dropped the ball big time. Shameful

Congrats on landing so quickly my wish for all impacted is that everyone lands somewhere fabulous, being appreciated for the hard work they do, and making more money than Staples. Somehow I think the odds are in our favor.

I am the author of the Mid Market post above and should have mentioned on Nov 1st, my role was eliminated. Best thing ever because I was quickly picked up by a GREAT company that truly appreciates their employees and customers. There really is a better life after Staples!

It’s pretty sad they deemed a ton of SBA accounts with less than $40k spend to not be worthy of having a dedicated account manager. Customers were told they have a “whole account team now to better assist them” which really means Customer Service. They “hand selected” well seasoned Acct Managers into “Retention Specialist” roles which left newer inexperienced (and lower paid) Acct Managers and Acct Specialists to become “Inside Account Executives” to manage the $40k - $100k accounts. And when the “Retention” role becomes an epic failure just like its predecessors: Win-Back Desk, Save Desk and the Marp Team, Staples will clean house of great talent once again. In all reality this Vertical cr-p show is really a huge dumpster fire just waiting to ignite, all while SP continues to devalue Staples and lining their pockets. This newest Vertical Alignment epic fail will bite Staples in the end because customers are feeling disposable now too. Such a shame because Staples Mid Market used to be a fun nice place to work.

This Sales Vertical Alignment move is just like the “best ever idea” GTM stunt. And we all know how well that turned out!
