Thread regarding VMware layoffs

My manager quit today

I didn't expect that to happen. This guy has it made, so why he'd choose to leave is beyond me - unless he knows something the rest of us regular peons don't. I would lie if I said I wasn't getting a bit worried. I hope things get resolved sooner rather than later, for all of our sake.

Managers are just like any other employee. Sometimes something better comes up, they are fed up with their management or simply get better money elsewhere. Don't overthink everything.

"You’re just bitter because your along for the VMW slide now"

Exactly my thought. Employees who held on to VMW stock are feeling foolish now.

Instead of being bitter about employees who sold their shares, learn from your mistake.

A lot of people timed their expects based on an Oct 30 close date. That didn’t happen and people couldn’t extend start dates at their new gig.

Yup, the above is the reason I'm leaving as well. I'm an IC who didn't receive an offer letter but have zero interest in BC offers anyway.

My manager got the offer but got a better job and left anyway since VMware was not supporting them and the new company gave them everything that they asked for.

They know layoff are coming

Stop making things up. We don't know anything about layoffs.

They know layoff are coming. 20% base cut in offer letters was just a ploy to pay less severance later.

My apologies. I must have confused this person for the other Jack off who can’t wait to blow his load whenever he/she has the opportunity to stroke their trading brilliance

This guy is not boasting, just explaining why senior managers are leaving VMW.

The point: if you're already well off financially, why stick around for more cash. Leaving now seems more humble than waiting and being greedy for more cash when you don't need it. Life is too short to worry. Exit now and enjoy your stash while you can.

Stop boasting about your recent stock sale. Seems like this is your first win. Trade long enough, and you’ll eventually be kicked to the curb. Stop boasting. Be humble. Be thankful

This should not surprise anyone if the manager was a VMware lifer (10+ years of service).

When you consider VMware salary matching contributions to 401k, RSU grants, and other financial benefits like annual bonuses, many senior managers are already millionaires.

Also, the smart ones sold most VMW exercisable shares at one or more of the market peaks during the past 12 months. So, now is a good time to resign, take time off, travel to Europe for the holidays, etc.

I speak from experience because that's exactly been my plan ;-)

Two big things to unpack here. What do you mean by "has it made"? That he is an easy, high-paying job? Some people would rather a job that pushes them and makes them learn new skills.

And, no, he doesn't know anything you don't. Don't let your paranoia take over. Managers don't know anything about what is about to go on.

I’m very confused about the number of people quitting right now? We’re almost to curtain call and feels like no expectations. Why aren’t people just hanging out waiting for severance?

If I were a manager I would have left a long time ago, good for him. Either way this goes its not going to be the same and we have already lost credibility from the customer and the damage to the brand.

@jct+1pAb86ox, no they’re not! Enough managers received offers already.

My manager gave notice. My team is falling apart. We are customer facing too.

The acquisition has failed and it is going to be very difficult for VMware to recover. It was wise to leave.

I'm surprised people are actually hanging on to this sinking ship that is VMware. If you haven't received an offer and you're still hanging on to hope, you and your dependents deserve every bit that's coming for you in the next couple of months.

I didn’t get an offer so I don’t mind some extra paychecks till I find the next job.
Go find your next one instead of hoping
