Thread regarding VMware layoffs

will the deal still be closed by oct.30?

will China approve it quickly? very unlikely since new chip export curbs just out today.
so will bc move forward anyway, taking much bigger risk in the current scenario ? also very unlikely.
then the deal will not be closed by oct.30. the market also believes it.

@hew+1p9Xh1MN what about China blocking the deal?

All indications point to it closing on 30th. I know several people who are neck deep in integration work and their activities have suddenly picked up. All work on other key projects have been stopped and more people have been pulled into integration work for next 3 weeks. Those folks say that there is no skipped beat from BC team about any hiccups and they are marching towards 30th close. 8K was filed today about the deadline announcement with a press release. They moved the deadline several times but they did not do such press releases for those. So this must be the last one and final date. Nothing is stopping it now.

Just heard that it might get dragged out to November 4. Just before Barcelona.

Just read the following from Register article. Does it sound like he is unsure and not confident about the deal? Be honest to yourself.

On Broadcom's Q3 earnings call, Tan said the deal has won "foreign investment control clearance in all necessary jurisdictions."
But that statement wasn't enough for Piper Sandler analyst Harsh Kumar, who asked if China would be a problem.
"Let me say this," Tan replied. "I made those specific notes or remarks on regulatory approval. I ask that you think it through, read it through and let's stop right there."

Googled, and the fact is:
"In FY2022, Broadcom's revenue in China amounted to 11.64 billion U.S. dollars, while revenues from the United States accounted for 5.92 billion U.S. dollars. The company generated a total net revenue of 33.2 billion U.S. dollars in FY2022, an increase from the 27.45 billion U.S. dollars made in the previous year." 1/3 of BC revenue comes from China; there is no way Hock can do that without China.

Exactly. Given the data and listening to Hock earnings call talk, it’s obvious. He doesn’t care if China approves or not. He didn’t want to say that aloud. If you don’t see it coming, it’s because you got sand in your eyes.

You don't know anymore than any of the rest of us.

Hock just needs to be sure to order one item from column A and another item from column B in order to get the deal.

I would not at all discount the possibility that this deal might be derailed. At least for now. China and the US have been playing a t-t-for-tat game when it comes to acquisitions. In 2019 Trump blocked the Qualcomm deal. And now China has the opportunity to block the BC/VMW deal. Same reasons, multi-billion-dollar, high profile deals that make headlines. And on top of that with Biden's announcement yesterday concerning banning AI chips to China adds more fuel to the fire and there you go. Poor Hock.... must su-k to be worth billions already and have your latest new toy pulled out from your hands....

With new chip curbs, I also doubt China will just approve it smoothly. At least postpone it for a while.
