Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Ireland & GSS

Hello,

What, does everyone think of the offices in Ireland & GSS support with broadcom coming in? Lots of sad faces the last number of weeks in the office

Broadcom does not have offices in Ireland now.
No point changing their tax structure now. So Ireland will not be saved for tax reasons.

Could be for other reasons. But not tax reasons

"cannot get rid of everyone there will be EU companies, enterprise customers contracted service white glove but may be lower tier layoffs to wipro"

I've never seen anything in the premier support or service contracts for private sector customers that would prohibit VMW from doing brown-glove delivery.

I suppose the non engineering staff will have a heavy hit, especially Cork.

The Dublin team isn't that big and mostly engineers, so not sure what they might go through.

they will keep the location for tax reasons that makes sense

some admin staff may go
its not a low cost area but all speculation at this stage

Roughly a grand total of 1,000 good folks are currently making their way in Cork, with a fine mix of GS, Operations, HR, Quality team, and a fair share of Directors, to be sure. It's becoming clear that the management team might be a tad on the heavy side, and it's looking like Cork's engineers might find their duties taken care of over in APJ/Egypt, where costs are a bit easier on the wallet. I've a notion that we could see a significant reduction in the Irish workforce, as much as 90%, in the first half-year.

The corporate tax increase is from 12.5% to 15% which is still a lot better than what other Countries are offering.

Obvious speculation, layoffs will happen, but that so called 205 jobs which VMware promised Irish Government must have come with its own conditions. So really not sure how much impact there can be.

All I’ve heard is rumours.
GS sold off to hcl or wipro.

Ireland has alot of staff in many different roles. Not sure if it’s just an office shut and no longer hire from Ireland and wait for attrition.

There will be layoffs in Ireland but that will be by bu not geo in Ireland.

Pure speculation

What people are saying about Broadcom is that the quality of their support is well below what VMware offers. Certainly, this might be due to the fact that they also have a smaller team. So, it's easy to guess what might happen.

Shame, some of the best TSEs I have worked with over the last 12 years have been in the Cork office. I wish them the best, whatever their future holds.

Broadcom takeover and ireland no longer providing their cheeky tax break for companies...Perfect cost cutting reason for BC. It'll shut down, like a lot of IT in Ireland.

Ireland will be gone off the map, but GSS will stay.
