I had an offer from another company and I kept dragging the decision till this day. I was hoping to get at least a clarification of where things are heading but seems like we are going to have to wait much longer. I can’t risk it anymore, it is a bit less money but piece of mind. Accepting the offer today and moving on. Best of luck to you all

"The idea of just being motivated by the BC stock price and growth numbers and always wondering if my job is safe is not appealing."
Then you definitely won't like working there, because that's literally all they have to offer.
Seems like hock will be inheriting a company with a serious moral problem. The acquisition process has damaged moral, customers and partners.
Hey Broadcom Software HR guy @1tqw+1p84BLTn, you are right about many VMW folks might take the BC offer with the intention of moving on when the market picks up and I don’t doubt that some will stick around. But not everyone enjoys a job for the money and the growth that you speak of, I work with a great team who are motivated by professionalism and delivering for the customer. The idea of just being motivated by the BC stock price and growth numbers and always wondering if my job is safe is not appealing. That’s all BC folks tend to talk about on this forum.
I know Broadcom gets a lot of negativity shared here and by others but frankly I look forward to it. I DO like their 'get things done' culture and minimize the waste. Sure I'll miss Bagel Mondays, Sushi Tuesdays, Wasteful Wednesdays...
I have absolutely no interest in taking a job at Broadcom. My VMware journey will end soon and I’ll take the next job I can find. Plenty of BC insiders I have chatted with have told me everything I need to know and I really don’t want to be worked into an early grave. It’s just a shame that I can’t make my intentions known up-front to make room for someone who actually wants to take the BC offer.
Yes correct. I meant to say “start” the new job. Accepting is ok as long as start date is after termination date.
Horse hockey. As long as your start date is beyond your separation date you are good to go. C'mon.
For all the people giving advice to accept the new job and not tell BC about it to receive the notice and severance pay - below is the answer on US Dept of Labor WARN advisor FAQs -
“Your former employer can consider the acceptance of a new job as a voluntary termination from your old job. Since you now have a new job, your former employer may end the payments you were receiving instead of a notice—just as the remaining days of your 60-day WARN notice would no longer be in effect if you found new employment before the date of your layoff.”
While it is legal to hold 2 full time jobs in US, you might consider above answer as well. It is highly likely that BC will know if you start a new job.

"Accepting the offer today and moving on."
Broadcom Software HR here. I expect the vast majority of VMW employees are considering the possibility of leaving once the job market improves -- if and when you're offered something better elsewhere.
You have likely read many of the negative comments about our company culture, but some people may like it when compared to the slow decline of VMW growth. So, keep an open mind. Just wait and see what happens next. You may be impressed.
I really don’t understand why people who have accepted an offer or left already feel the need to visit this site anymore. Its kind of sad. Move on and be happy for crying out loud. Your identity is no longer hitched to VMware!
We should bring down Broadcom from within. If nobody who accepts an offer does any work then the whole acquisition will have been for nothing, except for some IP. Fu-k Broadcom.
Simply:
- Accept offer and start new job
- Don't say anything to VMware
- Continue twiddling your thumbs and not doing anything for your VMware job
- Await offer/severance notification
- Take package from VMware/Bcom
- Count your double-dipped money
- Live happily ever after
If I were you , I would accept the offer but push the start date back until Nov. It’s only two weeks. Even if they can’t wait you can call sick here in VMware/BC whatever and start the other role. Cynical but again when your kids commitment is in the line, I think two weeks sick leave is a guilt I can leave with.
I have to believe this is part of why BC is doing it this way with no communication and public knowledge that cuts are imminent. Saving on severance of course.
I am also trying to time offers with severance but it’s hard because like OP said after weeks/months of the process companies are not going to hang out for long, especially when there is a 2-5 in line who went through the process too right behind you.
Good luck to all.
Never imagined VMware would end this way
feel like you could have just accepted your offer and pushed the start date to november 3rd or something a secured a nice severance with VMW on top of your new job. if not, totally get it. congrats!
why not get a severance and then leave? you have already waited this long haha.
If only we could, but not many employers can wait.
Last month, I informed a potential employer that I needed time until November for my severance, and he agreed to wait for me. However, in the subsequent follow-up, I was informed that the position had been filled by someone with similar skills who could start much sooner. In this competitive job market, we need to seize the opportunity when it's still hot.
Me too. I had both a NTNX and Red Hat offer, expiring at end of week.
I don't plan to give any notice and just decline the BCOM offer if "picked". With two kids in college, I had too many commitments in the coming years to let someone else decide my fate.
Good luck you all. Best group of people. Sad to see this happen.

That's a LOT of comp to walk away from at this point. I hope your onboarding bonus accounted for half a year of salary in a lump sum.
I was in the same boat and did the same thing. Have confidence that you made the right decision for you and look forward to the new role and learning new things! Trust me, you left at a good time. As we move into the last calendar quarter of the year and an uncertain economy hiring is slowing down for a lot of organizations, and I'd rather have left on my own than have the decision made for me and be competing with thousands of others all let go on the same day for new roles somewhere else.
Congrats. I did this over a year ago. As soon as the acquisition was announced and seeing what they had done to other companies, where they gutted 75% of the staff, and seeing that roles like mine were eliminated I started looking. In hindsight it was probably the kick in the pants I needed as I had felt my skills at VMW were no longer being utilized. I am now in a non-tech industry. After having spent decades in tech its a breath of fresh air not to mention far more stable. Wishing all of you still there all the best.
Congrats! Same here. Accepted outside offer in the past week. BC/VMW is 100% soured for me. Can’t wait
Don’t worry BC will be just fine without you.
And you!
And you!
And… you!
Just like we are losing a lot of business to competition, we are also losing good candidates. That shows how much BC cares and what is coming.
All the best! Happy for you and wishing you a great future. 💯🎉✨
Best of luck!
Congrats on making the best decision for yourself - good luck with the new role.
