Layoffs are done and folks are already asking about the next round. It hasn't been even a week yet. And I'm not blaming them, we all know how things work here nowadays. It's just one never-ending cycle.

One explanation for working level employees to have been laid off is they might have been replaced by cheaper ones from low cost areas
@zua: If that was the motivation, the company failed at it. You see that almost all the expensive senior titles are still there and the working level got decimated.
The goal of last layoff was to strongly encourage high earning people to voluntarily leave.
Motivated ones move on leaving behind second and third grade engineers and managers.
