If you are skilled, enjoy being challenged and making more money why would anyone want to stay at Qualcomm?
At what point can a company keep operating with LIFERs at the helm?
LIFER = Lazy, Inefficient Fu---r Expecting Retirement

If you truly care about work opportunities, the VC funding scene is much stronger in India.
To me, comparing SD with the Bay Area is like comparing apples to oranges because quality of lifestyle and work opportunities cannot be compared from both sides. But it’s just my personal observation.
@1ceo depends. If you bought your own place before covid your fixed mortgage is likely less than the astronomical increaed rent. But this applies to bay area too.
To make an apples to apples comparison, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who was renting in SD move to a better apartment in bay area.
San Diego is a dream place to live but it can be a challenge to make a living
Moving away from SD is a mistake. There's no place like it.
Q is a Cricket Country Club for LIFER
@1rof+1p74Bcn2 meet up at the beach "during work hours on company's dime" .... That is how a LIFER would do it. You still have ways to go before you become a true LIFER.
I'm a LIFER and I'm proud of it! Who's with me? Let's meet-up at the beach!!!
SD engineering culture is nothing like the BA culture. Everything is about 5 years behind. SD is good for LIFERS' lifestyle. Even the work at GOOG and AAPL in San Diego is just elbow grease work.
Bay is definitely the place to be to do cutting edge work.
If you enjoy being challenged SD is not the place. During pandemic, quite some mid to senior level folks moved from BA to SD because they want to "coast" and enjoy the LIFER lifestyle. These people are spent. Done. Not hungry. Cannot handle assignments with serious delivery deadlines. Cannot deliver quality code. Doesn't matter where they are working - whether QCOM or GOOG or AAPL or AMZN.
If you are not happy in your current job, there is still a decent number of tech companies in San Diego. For a bachelor it's easy to move, but the consequences of moving family especially school going children who may have built roots in San Diego is not trivial. Relocating from awesome SD should be a last resort!
If you are not happy in your current job then believe me even the awesome weather in San Diego can't make you happy and is not worth it
Quantum is replete with lifers Eddy occupy strategic roles and cause motivated employees to move on to greener pastures, leaving behind other lifers at lower levels as well.
So true. There are different places besides San Diego. You can always comeback for retirement.
Jeff G is still there? Absolutely not qualified for the job.
Jeff G and others chased several really good people away and, in turn, produced next to nothung in terms of successful product launches.
Not everything is about money. Leave San Diego and go where? Standard of living will drop in bay area, earning more doesn't help there. Pacific northwest has deteriorated over the last 5 yesrs. Family comes first. Relocating is a last resort.
