I have at least five years left and I honestly don't know how I'm going to make it with my mental health intact. Yes, we've always had layoffs, but not this often. Not to mention, finding a new job was much easier a decade ago than now. I do have savings, but not enough to feel like it wouldn't matter if I was laid off and unable to get a job for who knows how long. So I worry. And stress. And worry some more. I'm tired of it all.

@1mds: That's nothing. Someone I know, a family of 3, has a Model-X and Model-Y for weekday commutes. They have a 4WD Mercedes Glamping Van and a Porsche Taycan for weekends. Their property tax base is 1.65% for a 4700 sq ft house with a $570 HOA. Two vacations every year one to India and one to some exotic place. Always biz class. While in India, they stay at Leela Palace even though they have a nice place in Janakpuri. Kid goes to CC. One of them is laid off now and they are panicking.
How to save if i have a 3000 sqft house in north county, in a good school district. I drive a tesla and my wife a leased bmw. Kids go to cram school and music lessons. I also give back to disadvantaged communities by having a gardener and maid. Inflation and layoffs are not making this easy!
Don't feel so bad. Many of us feel the same way and are in the same situation. Just save as much as you can and put away the max in your 401K that is allowed. They say there are many jobs out there. For some, they get a job right away, and others it takes time (like 6 months, or after 20 interviews). But don't give up. It's one day at a time.
I'm with you. Let's cling on until the next cycle.
For applicants with skill sets and willing to relocate, there seems to be great job opportunities
