Read today that EEOC has filed suit against Up for sending all those hundreds of former employees home that failed eye and other health conditions.

Unions won't do anything. Their leadership plays golf and attends parties with the Labor Relations folks. The union leaders high five each other and spend your dues money pretending to represent you. While you are working in the elements busting your hump to make ends meet, they are taking care of themselves with your money living a life most of us will never see. There is an extreme disconnect between the work boots on the ground and the shiny loafers kicked up on a desk.
The Unions are in the same bed as UP. If they want to get rid of you and the other 100 percent earners I.E. SP, DRGW, SSW, and others they will.
You 95ers and others before UP have been warned. Look at Rick Palato, John Gaona, Alvin Tovar and other SPers from the 90's. PUFF! GONE
UP is a sinking ship and will destroy its self
@1mts You bring up some very good points I never really considered about the unions. I have been a couple unions before and have heard the talking points about how they protect the worker from the company but never saw any tangible evidence that they did anything to help me as a union member. In this instance, I would have thought the unions would have stood up to the company and ensured compliance with the EEOC. Thinking about it, I see that you are right in the fact that the unions govern the members.
@1bnd I don't think you understand how unions work. As much as I hate the unions and the BS they do, union can't enforce compliance with employment numbers. In other words, the unions can't force companies to hire X amount of employees. The unions CANNOT stop any company from laying off employees due to future business projections. This is an argument that gets brought up over and over again. If you willingly break a company rule, the company fires you, then there's really not much any union can do. The only real way to fight the dismissal is to file a grievance with your local steward. The union can only fight for the worker in the event of an unfair dismissal. The unions cannot in anyway enforce federal rules either. The unions can only help the worker understand and comply with the federal rules that are enforced onto them by the company and by the FRA. The unions have to follow the same federal rules as the worker. Quite a few of the union representatives are workers just like the folks they represent. I'm sure this will pi-s off some people, but the attacks on the unions over what people think they can do is based on really bad information. The unions govern the workers, not the business they work in.
I completely understand why everyone is cheering on this decision for the EEOC to investigate UP but there is one disturbing facet everyone is overlooking. What point is there in paying the union dues if the unions are not taking care of the employees? If the federal government is stepping in to enforce the company to comply with federal laws, then the unions are not doing their job and no one seems to be concerned with holding the unions accountable.
The unions crow about how they "protect the worker" from the company but this proves that the unions really don't have the worker's best interest at heart.
This why it’s important to file complaints with the federal EEOC, not UP’s EEO hotline. The only thing UP’s EEO hotline does is protect the company from lawsuits, nothing more. That’s why it’s difficult to get managers fired for EEO stuff because if the company finds them guilty and terminates the manager, they are admitting a wrongdoing occurred and then the victim can take it to court to sue UP and easily win. As was seen in this article, UP thought they were protecting themselves from lawsuits if a person they deem “color blind” caused an accident, instead they set themselves up for one anyway for violating ADA. UP is very corrupt and getting organizations like EEOC, FRA, ACLU and others involved is the only way to stop it.
Good! The UP needs to be exposed for the deceptive employment practices they've been using for years. I'm sure the almighty UP execs will enjoy the extra attention from folks on the outside.
There's A LOT more then a few hundred. It's up in the thousands.
Good, I hope they win!
