Were people hired just so they could be used as pawns in the layoff? A guy who joined our team five months ago is gone. I think it's unconscionable to hire somebody, have them leave another job, and then lay them off because (most likely) you need younger people to balance out all the oldtimers you're getting rid of.

Trifling with someone's livelihood like this absolutely appalling.
Lo----e managers and directors that pull this cr-p should fired, end of story.
Why bring someone in direct for that amount of time? Get a contractor, at least they know it's temporary.
If you accept an offer that has 3 year vesting period, and you are doing good work, they should honor that agreement and keep you that long. Otherwise, your vesting should be accelerated if you get cut.
Q can sc--w people's lives with impunity. -- Beware before signing on with Q !
Better them than you. Right?
We had a college graduate join us four months ago. H1B. We had to console her after the news hit that our whole team was eliminated. Just utter cruelty without regard to the human cost.
I'd say when that happens and it isn't the whole team... be prepared for the whole team next time around.
This is the QCOM way
Same here. I was brought it at Sr. Staff; had a stellar review for my first year at Q... then... out of the blue, they riffed Me back in May. I felt like I was just brought in to be good-old-boys cannon fodder. -- It pretty much ruined my life...
Well, that's why you need to negotiate the sign-on bonus well!
Same here, I'm pi---d
Well, last in first out. If you are the manager then you fire the least useful member of your group.
Maybe they dont want grow the team anymore in Highcost centre which kind of reflects removing of New College Grads.
Same happened in my team too. Despicable.
