San Diego: I volunteered for "early retirement" (voluntary layoff) and got my call this morning, will receive an electronic package for severance and other instructions, last day Oct 18 officially (hand in equipment and gear). I didn't ask my boss about others, but it's happening today, and I'm sure the emails will begin soon...

Typical QCOM...Great company to work for in the past, but now a days it is a sweat shop and lots of inexperienced people being hired. The smart ones left for Apple and other better opportunities outside of the wireless industry with better pay. You can only go so far so quickly...they are being reactive now a days to the market vs being pro-active. Hopefully they change their strategy soon...they need a shake up on the board if you ask me.
I know the people who “volunteer “ means they spoke with management prior, either recent or over a year ago. They ask if there are layoffs they should be considered. I know this for a fact. So even though there was no voluntary it was known they would be happy to get a package.
My brother got his email. Wishing you all the best.
For those questioning "volunteering" -- of course they agreed, as it makes the layoff easier. I got the standard severance: two months plus 2 weeks per year employed. I'm really sorry for those being let go against their wishes. Good luck to you all.
Any info on pkge?
I knew about this yesterday. Your October 18th date matches mine.
You can always volunteer. It makes a manager's job easier if employees volunteer. You just need to say the right thing to make it happen when volunteering to leave.
Operation Shopping Mall is on target. Over and out.
Right-size this company, and release the sh!t-for-brains VPs that survived WAY past their expiration date.
There are meetings scheduled all over the conference rooms. Check them out.
Did your email just call you in for a meeting or did it explicitly state you were part of the reduction?
I am a sr director in MST and I just got my meeting invite. Time to get the package and finally look for a real job
Have managed to slack for 15 years, thanks to my VP friends
You can alway say your skills are maximized and your motivation is low. That basically does the same.
@ubs there are no extra juicy voluntary packages, but can volunteer to be part of the regular layoffs
"Volunteering" was not an official option but all it took was a 1:1 conversation with my boss weeks ago. He couldn't promise anything, but I just found out it worked :)
There is no volunteering this round. Clearly there on the HR website. Nice troll job though.
I'm in San Diego...I received my email this morning. My meeting isn't until this afternoon. Not sure why they are dragging it out and making us wait.
thought we can't volunteer this round ?
