They are gonna add more people. Contractors. They are gonna say they can’t hire enough or train them so they need contractors

All it will take is one big derailment in California where hazmat gets dumped and/or a large fire starts to put Vena in his place. You can bet the furloughed/former mechanical and engineering employees will be happy to testify so CA can sue the UP into oblivion.

As a side note, many of the yards cutoff the carman positions and are using utility conductors to inspect the rolling stock. They do not have the same training as mechanical department employees, but safety first.

I read the article too, and I'm really not surprised about what was said in that article. The cuts were way too deep, and really no one left to fix the issues. The even sadder part is that there's even more cuts coming for the very same departments unfortunately. I quit that place during the first PSR run. I can't say that my life has been a whole lot better, but I don't worry about whether today is the day my job is gone. Now with the sh1t mid-et in the big chair, it really only has one outcome. He's going to cut anywhere he can to give his investors the illusion that the RR didn't need as many people to run. Then once the stock price falls again, he'll announce his resignation and disappear exactly like he did the first time. He'll walk away with millions of dollars and many people will be out of a job that was one once the most secure jobs on the planet. The UP Vena saga has no happy ending anywhere unless he sporadically grows a brain and a conscious, then realizes he doesn't really know what he's doing when it comes to running a business. I'd even come back for the same pay, if they make me the CEO. Not only would I not have the first clue on how to run a railroad, but I could make the same mistakes as Vena and save the company 14 million dollars per year.

Might as well put a blanket 25mph on most of the railroad. So many speed restrictions and not enough people to fix them.

Just read it, agree a great article. In mechanical and engineering depts the cuts were far too deep. Dunno how bad the track is gonna have to get along with how bad the rolling stock is gonna have to get before UP will finally start adding to personal to fix it all.
