Anybody else here wanted to be laid off but is not? This might sound insensitive to those who are let go today but I wish the timing of this was better and they had offered a voluntary severance package.

to the poster talking about the Dec bonus: weren't those scrapped at the last all hands?
Not insensitive at all.
I was "impacted" (what a bullsh-t term that is) but I made it clear to my manager that I was willing to go when the layoffs were announced. I know they said they would not allow people to volunteer, probably to give themselves leeway to make the cuts management felt were necessary, but I was told that some direct managers were (supposedly) not told beforehand who was targeted and received an email late last night indicating who would be laid off.
I don't know what is true, or partly true, but I know for a fact that some managers were provided the names of the people upper management wanted to cut and were asked their input about the decision last Monday, which makes sense since VPs know nothing about what specific engineers are actually doing.
Either way would have been good for me. If notified, I could have jumped ship to my old employer in Dec. 18 with a generous severance package. If i am not affected, i will now need to decide if it is worth staying after the Dec. bonus.
