Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Is Qualcom the World Champ of Layoffs?

Honestly, we get hit so often, I am not aware of any other company that does layoffs this often. I've joined thre years ago and now it looks super unstable. Maybe I am overthinking this and it may turn out to be smaller than I think but that's my 2 cents on this weird and widely anticipated 10/11 that is turning out not to be that bad at all.

Cisco lays off every July. It's guaranteed. It's much more frequent that what we are experiencing here. You have several Fortune 500 companies that are in Industries that are shrinking, they have quarterly layoffs (e.g., insurance companies).

Also, I've worked in Energy and it's a rollocoaster, when the price of oil is up, all is good, bonuses galore. The moment the prices go down they start tu cut deep, so you'll have 2 good years, followed with 2 years of layoffs or something like that.

Also, some professions are affected more than others. Depends on the cycle and how the tech, the customer, the preferences or the world is changing. For example, enterprise software sales were superlucrative since the 80s, once SaaS became prevelant all large companies started cutting sales folks and it's been going on for almost a decade now. And its progressively getting worse, my SO is in that business...

Anyhow, I could go on and on on this. The best way to research this is just to look at the front page of this website and see which companies are tagged as having 'recent layoffs' - then visit six months later and if a company is still on that list there is something off there.

Good luck!
