December layoffs happened in IDS. Impacted global marketing and R&D. From what I hear there is more to come. People seem to be disappearing every other week.
It feels like the hunger games... personally I'm still here but it's almost every week someone I know is cut. I sit in FLKS so it's across all businesses and corporate roles.
@glmv+1p1bganl. We had "restructuring" at BD Mebane recently. Probably like other sites, the "restructuring" was/is designed to justify some positions. In our case, we had an employee brought up from Brazil to fill a CI Manager position that had been dissolved 7 years early. Conveniently enough, our Production Manager left within a year after this, and then all of a sudden the CI position was no longer justifiable so they dissolved that again and moved the "chosen one" over to fill the Production Manager position and renamed it Sr Ops Manager even though this person has minimal experience with our type of production or almost anything for that matter. This new manager was also put in charge of 2 production engineers as part of the production team....all in an effort to justify her position. So, basically, these engineers and current production supervisors will be doing the job of the new Sr Ops Manager while she rakes in her +$150k a year salary.....all in the name of "restructuring" and what is "best for the plant". I think at this point some senior-level managers/directors/HR and higher can't even spell unethical anymore....it reeks in Mebane.
I'm in the US region and was informed today of more restructuring. Everyone is so anxious and scared about losing their job.

Ge-z, BD jumped the shark around 2015/16. It is no longer a company where you can build a fulfilling career. From the CEO to the front-line managers, there are very few capable and respected leaders left at BD. The current crop of leaders resembles NFL replacement players from many years ago. They wear the BD badge, pat each other on the back, but there’s something off about their performance.
Is BD going to sell the instrumentsa portion of IDS ?
This thread makes sense to me because IDS has asked for more financial cutbacks. God, you can only run so lean before it starts showing in other areas. I've read 20-30 times about people saying if "leadership" would only look they could gain a lot by cutting the ones who have no value.
Who's surprised? not me!
I'm not sure if it's IDS specifically, or really BDX. They have done a few major mergers fueled by cheap debt and I'll let you judge if those have been as successful as they were promised to be.
I used to work in IDS/SM during the Vince Forlenza days. What attracted me to BD (partially) was that it was sold as a stable company that didn't regularly close plants or do mass layoffs. That seems to have all changed in the last few years. What is the biggest driver behind all of this from what you see? Is the R&D pipeline really that dry minus all of the acquisitions BD has done over the past 6 years? We all knew the COVID revenue would dry up at some point - so a part of me thinks that just temporarily painted over the cracks. Is senior IDS leadership that bad compared to what it used to be 6 years ago?

Are you thinking the layoffs will also be there at Sandy and Salt Lake again?
My source makes me believe that might be the case.
Just curious but are the December layoffs a pretty sure thing? Or is it just mostly an opinion?
I heard a rumor that there will probably be another one in January ish but haven't heard from a reliable source.
