“Big” visit

I find it so interesting the importance placed on corporate visits v.s. the customers everyday shopping experience. For OVER a year we needed painting, carpets cleaned, LIGHTING! And now that we’re having a BIG regional visit with only 1 person coming in from NY we now have a painter, a housekeeping CREW extracting badly stained carpets, and someone installing over 600 previously burnt out ceiling lights plus corporate slugs coming in to help set the store to “standards”. The in store management itself is working extra hours, hourly peeps have overtime and they’ve brought in people to be continuous folders and work put backs, the visual person is adding more mannequins and “hits”! All this for a visit that’ll last for about 4 hours. And they’ll just point out the obvious while they’re here that we need more merchandise which will soon be forgotten once they hit the parking lot. This person from NY must clearly hold some weight. But back to the customers shopping experience, not so much weight I guess.

All this is true for all other retail companies when they have visits, except for one thing...The customer experience is lacking at Macy's. IMO it's all due to poor training by managers who send new employees to get trained by other employees who don't give a damn, because they are not paid to be captains, lead, or champions. Meanwhile the person who suffers is the customer. Saying this happens in all other retail companies is just an excuse for how truly bad it is at Macy's.

Now more than ever……when real Macy stores run with little to no staff, buildings are very dirty, merchandising standards barely maintained and new goods pile up off the floor….It’s really disgraceful that Macys senior management still want to visit a “ fake” store and pretend it’s real. This continues to show how poor Macys management really is……denying the reality of how most of their stores run.

Putting the illusion that everything is awesome is the goal during corporate visits. Shows you were the customers line up in the priority list in Macys. Remember once the visit is over you have to payback all the hours used. It’s worse now without true operational teams in place.
